The film is rich withbeautiful shots and an awesome soundtrack that create a perfectbackdrop for the clever and disturbing writing. This well crafted scripthas many surprising twist and turns that will leave youon the edge of your seat....wanting more. Ryan Phillippe's performanceboth in front of the camera and behind the camera is raw, real andquite impressive. My favorite take away is the film's message on karma. A dark comedy that will surely be a cult classic and stir a following with Ryan Phillippe fans. Don't miss the last scene.

(mx) wrote: It's not that the movie was bad, because it wasn't. It was just low budget and should have been on TV. I shouldn't have to pay $11.00 for that.

In terms of a decent story and characters we actually care about, it falters. However, in terms of a somewhat enjoyable animated flick - while not still being anywhere near Pixar's best - it is still nonetheless one we can swallow.Verdict: C+

Many characters, stories, twists, the atmosphere of Christmas and one unexpected cameo made this film brilliant to watch for everyone. Having been drawn to the story of this movie before, I have many opportunities to say now what I think of it.First of all, I was on the edge of my seat when I found out that the film was divided into small stories related to each other. Discussing about all scenes and amazing couples of characters will take much time so I'll speak about my favorites. It's not a secret that the best couple in the movie for me is Juliet (Keira Knightley) and Mark (Andrew Lincol). Actually, Juliet is quite happy-go-lucky, but at the same time, she is down-to-earth and shrewd, because she first understood that Mark had fallen in love with her. But being so shy, Mark couldn't open his heart and confess his feelings. Also I have a strange feeling about that couple John and Judy (Martin Freeman and Joanna Page) who was shooting in a so-called "romcom in a bed" almost during the whole film. Their actions were so unconvincing, wooden, feeble and unbelievable that they looked ridiculous. Although, I'm glad they were together.Secondly, Harry (Alan Rickman) and Caren's (Emma Thompson) story sent chills down my spine because this is so vital and urgent nowadays and it showed how relationships can change after a long period of living together. Karen was so realistic, suspenseful and convincing that I could hardly control my feelings. Anyway, she was a strong woman and made everything to save her family, and Harry finally understood what value he was losing when trying to cheat on his wife.Thirdly, I can't express how much I like and appreciate such an actor as Rowan Atkinson. It was interesting to find out that he played a role in the film as a cameo. Thanks to him the film was decorated with the unforgettable atmosphere of that old British humor, which can be seen in the films starring Rowan Atkinson. To sum up everything I've said, without a doubt this film is worth watching and deserves good reviews. Despite the fact that this movie is quite slow-paced, simplistic, filled with clichs and predictable, it's so realistic, original, well-developed and versatile that I did like it. Nevertheless, we need to thank all the acclaimed and unsurpassed cast and its perfect work, all the lead and supporting actors. Also that was fantastic to listen all the soundtracks and songs during the whole film that made me enjoy the atmosphere of Christmas.I advise everyone to see this movie at least once, you will not regret about it! And I wish you a merry Xmas and a happy New Year!
(de) wrote: A fun film noir with fluid and sometimes haunting cinematography. I don't think it's the best in the genre, though. Even with my complaints I highly recommend the film. If you don't like film noir you'll probably like this one, and really that's my problem with it. It feels too modern. It feels like the kind of noir that came out after film noir became self-aware and it became exploited because the formula was standardized. This feels less like a 1947 film and more like a movie made today trying to imitate a 1947 film noir. That doesn't make the film less enjoyable, but it does prevent it from achieving genuine greatness.I found the tone and the characterizations were uneven for Jane Greer. If you're the type of person who likes any woman who's attractive than you'll love her, but I didn't like her. An unlikable woman in a film noir? Yeah, the genre that invented the femme fatale. That's not my problem. She's a great actress, but in a film with such an upbeat pace and style I'd like the movie to at least make her sympathetic, or endearing, or feisty, crazy, funny; anything besides just "two-timing dame." She seems like she should be in a grittier movie.Robert Mitchum is great in this, but he's really not as smart as he thinks he is, or maybe he's aware of it. He talks fast and usually has a witty comeback for everything, but some of his witticisms aren't very clever at all. A lot of it doesn't even make sense, or he'll say something a child would say. Some of it is just cryptic. This isn't a complaint, though. I found it unusual, but I liked him. He's got a classy sense of humor and it's fun to hear him talk no matter what nonsense he says. Unfortunately, because of the huge difference between the two leads I didn't think they have very good chemistry. They seemed like they were both from different movies. The story is great. Lots of twists and turns. It gets a little confusing toward the end, but even if you stop paying attention to certain plot points there's more than enough entertainment value to make up for it. This is one of the most funny and good looking film noirs out there. Not perfect, but pretty damn close.
