Anna B (kr) wrote: Argh! It was doing so well! I absolutely loved it until it turned into an absurd soap opera with the ridiculous ultimate revelation that I guessed at halfway through and immediately wrote off as too stupid to actually happen. I've forced myself not to rate it based on that one plot element, because I was really into it for most of its length, but ugh... ugh ugh ugh. No.
Paul D (mx) wrote: The story of corruption in high political office is certainly not a new theme in cinema. Russell Crowe stumbles through his part and Catherine Zeta Jones feels underused. Mark Wahlberg is much more comfortable with his running around lead action part and the fact that this film has a decent pace to it makes it watchable.

Michael S (br) wrote: Full disclosure: I watched the "Josie and the Pussycats" cartoon when I was in kindergarten. I remember it as having a Scooby-Doo vibe, with some episodes even being set in outer space. This film adaptation bears no resemblance to that cartoon, as an evil record label wants to use subliminal messages in music to make teenagers buy stuff. Ugh. This is a loud, overly broad comedy that lands with a resounding thud.
Millo T (kr) wrote: Between 2.5 and 3. It was a good idea to start with, but the own moral misery of the main characters makes the balloon lose the air. Although the end reforces the interesting message, the development of the movie was not as good as it could be. In fact, its hard to do a movie about moral problems of sensacionalism that doesnt resemble to yellow press itself. But OK, you can see it.

Grant S (nl) wrote: Okay, but not great, drama. From master crime-drama director Fritz Lang, the movie centres on the machinations and office politics of a media company during a murderer's killing spree. The crime aspect is good, as you would expect from Lang. He builds the tension well, and keeps you intrigued throughout. Even though the identity of the murderer is revealed fairly early, this does not diminish the suspense. The office politics side, however, is mostly quite dull. The machinations are hardly that appalling (at least not by today's standards). If Lang was trying to make a point about (the lack of) ethics in the media (or business in general), he missed the mark.Good performance by Dana Andrews in the lead role. Solid supporting cast.
Tara H (br) wrote: Nicholas Ray's directorial debut bears the hallmarks of his later masterpieces - his central themes of doomed youth and conflicted masculinity are all here. It bears a vague resemblance to the Bonnie and Clyde story, but Ray's ultra-romantic vision has more in common with Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The early scenes, in particular, establish sympathy for the two main characters which a more conventional director could not have achieved, with naturalistic touches that show how Ray was a film-maker ahead of his time (which would ultimately be his undoing.)
Bill R (it) wrote: I remember watching this and hearing good things and how surprised everyone was about the ending but this wasn't good at all. I may be the only one that found this boring and so predictable that I could of napped and had a better entertainment value than watching this. A documentary that doesn't do what is praised and yet somehow it got its own TV series.
