The Brain That Wouldn't Die

Dr. Bill Cortner (Jason Evers) and his fiancée, Jan Compton (Virginia Leith), are driving to his lab when they get into a horrible car accident. Compton is decapitated. But Cortner is not fazed by this seemingly insurmountable hurdle. His expertise is in transplants, and he is excited to perform the first head transplant. Keeping Compton's head alive in his lab, Cortner plans the groundbreaking yet unorthodox surgery. First, however, he needs a body.

Dr. Bill Cortner has been performing experimental surgery on human guinea pigs without authorization and against the advice of his father, also a surgeon. When Bill's fiancée Jan Compton is decapitated in an automobile accident, he manages to keep her brain alive. He now needs to find a new body for his bride-to-be and settles on Doris Powell, a glamor model with a facial disfigurement. Jan meanwhile doesn't want to continue her body-less existence and calls upon the creature hidden in the basement, one of Bill Cortner's unsuccessful experiments, to break loose. . Christopher T (ca) wrote: Poor acting. Unbelievable that Bean put his name to this project. the rest has an authentic feel to it, but poor acting in a movie is not acceptable.

Matty S (ru) wrote: Even if this French musical were not so enjoyable -- and it is. The gathering of this legendary cast of actors makes for an event. Franois Ozon is having fun, but he never lets the art and style of the film to lapse. I highly disagree with RT's comment that this is inspired by Cukor. This is most certainly a cinematic satire of Douglas Sirk. Impossibly French and fun. It is particularly fun to watch Deneuve, Huppert and Ardant spare.

Daniel M (it) wrote: This film wasn't liked too much by alot of people, when first released. They all thought that it was an attempt to remake the classic western High Noon. Which it does have the same plot, but I absolutely loved this one. The plot revolves around this town getting invaded by a pile of crooks: Henry Fonda, Jack Elam, James Best.....etc. And Stewart, being the sheriff of the town, tries to stop them. Good direction, and acting. This film was one of the better westerns made in the late 60's. Check it out.
