(mx) wrote: This has got to be the dumbest sounding film ever and believed it or not...it is incredibly dumb. Employee of the Month is not the definite film of all time, but it is certainly is a bad movie. It is not well written, not well acted, it is just not well. So what is Employee of the Month about? Well, it is about a man named Zack Bradley, played by Dane Cook. He is a box boy at a local supermarket named Super Club...pretty much ripping of off BJ's, but with crappy products. He isn't the most popular because he and month his friends are complete slacking rejects. He also likes to play pranks on the store's head cashier, Vince Downey, played by Dax Shepard. Vince normally picks Zack for being completely lazy with his work. Then Zack encounters a change of heart when a new cashier named Amy Renfro, played by Jessica Simpson (?), joins the BJ's clone. Zack undergoes that phase of a good looking guy that doesn't have a care in the world sees love at the first sight...yeah this is becoming cheesy suburban fairytale, but without most of the fairytale aspects. Zack tries so hard to get her attention, but Vince also wants a piece of Amy as well. So the race is on to see who can win the Employee of the Month award. If that person wins, they get to keep their job and AMY!Okay, you maybe wondering (or not, depending on your point of view) that this IS the dumbest thing to watch and it is. It is not funny, the writing is a completely BAD joke, and gives the conception that Dane Cook is likable. Ok, there are maybe a couple of laughs, but they get forgotten anyway. There were also some pretty touchy scenes as well...even if it is corny as hell. To be far, Dax and his assistant do make a funny line once in a while. I think the film should have been centered on these two. They were the funniest part of the entire movie! Jessica Simpson is just average brood that makes such a generic performance. I think she, Tara Reid, and Kirsten Stewart went to the same acting school. So, is it a bad movie? Yes, of course it is. The film is not funny, the performances and writing is beyond lazy, over the top, and forgettable. The only likable moments are the touchy ones and the scenes with Dax and his assistant. My advice, don't see this movie. It is just not worth your time. I am going to give this film a 1/5 stars.

(de) wrote: Typical actioner in that one guy takes out a whole bunch of other guys, that has at its core the relationship between a man/boy assassin and a child wise beyond her years ... it was a touch difficult to watch. Besson hides his knocking-on-the-door-of-depravity Lolita tale behind the old conceit "she wanted it." Handle this one with care.

(ru) wrote: It is a cheap TV movie but the acting, the story, the settings in particular, are all incredibly realistic. We feel the tensions very well. Romero was killed in 1980, the DVD and film mentioned 1989, but the civil war continued unti 1992. The film may have contributed to end the hostilities. It is depicting how harsh the conditions were and how violence begat more violence. Wikipedia says the issue now is gang wars. I wish them to find peace some day.

The Dracs do not take too kindly to the human's behavior and a battle ensues. A human and drac pilot crash on a deserted planet with many of their friends dying around them. The Drac and the human will have to work together to survive. "What am I supposed to do, run down to the market for a jar of baby Drac food?"Wolfgang Petersen, director of Troy, Das Boot, The Never Ending Story, Air Force One, Outbreak, Poseidon, Shattered, and In the Line of Fire, delivers Enemy Mine. The storyline for this picture is fairly entertaining and an interesting addition to the science fiction genre. The acting by Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett Jr. was excellent. "Where the hell has he been?"I remembered thoroughly enjoying this picture as a youth and was happy to come across it on HBOGO. This was very fun, entertaining and well executed. This isn't a perfect picture by any means, but the characters were well delivered. I do recommend seeing this."He fulfilled his vow."Grade: B

(mx) wrote: Frears' debut has Finney firing as a comic with PI delusions mixed up with dim Hammett wannabes. Snappy fun, if overbearingly scored.
(ag) wrote: Squarely in the fantasy sci-fi camp (as opposed to the kind of sci-fi based in reality) this 50's romp has the aliens here to enlist our help instead of the ever popular take over everything ethos we've come to expect. At least at the beginning. Still interesting even if dated. The dumbest guy in the film has the biggest brain! That alone is worth a drink or two!
(jp) wrote: Agreeable fantasy (later remade with Warren Beatty) that sees boxer Robert Montgomery (father of Elizabeth) mistakenly claimed for Heaven by Edward Everett Horton before his time. So, Mr. Jordan (Claude Rains) promises to find him a replacement body and eventually deposits him inside a millionaire who has just been murdered by his wife and secretary. Montgomery resists at first but when he sees the injustices fostered by the millionaire and falls in love with the daughter of one of his victims, he decides to stay in the body (despite wishing to fight for the world championship anyway). Not exactly a laugh riot but genial and with some good performances (particularly by James Gleason as Montgomery's manager in the ring). Rains has not much to do but he is always a pleasure to watch. Montgomery's loutish New York mugging was a bit difficult for me to take but probably engaged the audiences of the time. Also the idea that our fates are predestined didn't quite jell with the notion that Montgomery has some control over the road he is on, but ah well. Above average.

(ag) wrote: Boring, childish, completely predictable, and racist (the dark ugly people are bad, white shiny people are good; having one black man as a leader among the good guys don't change the overall tone) to boot. Oh and the one significant female human character is basically incapacitated most of the movie (I guess the dragon is female too).
