Matthew L (fr) wrote: A nice atmospheric horror, in the tradition of Children Of The Corn or Wicker Man with its combination of rural setting and the lengths people will go to in the name of their faith. Its just a shame that the main cast are just so bland that stops this film from raising above other run of the mill horror.

It's the story of Ralph and Scott, two friends who are against the war in Vietnam, and who are trying not to be drafted. Things happen that test their relationships with their families and with each other. They find themselves and figure out what it is all about. 1969 has a great 80s cast. Robert Downey Jr., Kiefer Sutherland, Winona Ryder, and the always excellent Joanna Cassidy. Anyone that has ample adoration for all things 80s, as I do, needs to add 1969 to their must see list.
Dr J (nl) wrote: Fantastically, gloriously bad movie. Some El Santo movies are good, a few great, some bad, some really bad and some so bad they're good. This is one of the latter. Crazy action scenes on another planet(?) or what appears to be a black fabric backdrop with sparkly stars on it coming down to a dirt floor where El Santo and the bad guys fight, kick, shoot machine guns and flame throwers at each other and cast shadows against said backdrop -- a euphorically surreal vision to behold. A bad scientist has created some amorphous blob of foamy, voluptuous, people-under-a-sheet kind of monster that makes The Creeping Terror look somewhat polished by comparison. Try counting the domes under the hulking mass. Sheer delighted wonderment is generated by scenes of hapless victims waiting around for the seething blop to absorb them into its billowy form. If you like El Santo movies, this one's a kick. If you don't know what I'm talking about, forget about it.
