The Charles Bukowski Tapes

The Charles Bukowski Tapes

The Charles Bukowski Tapes are an altogether more than four hours long collection of 52 short-interviews with the American cult author Charles Bukowski, sorted by topic and each between one and ten minutes long. Director Barbet Schroeder (Barfly) interviews Bukowski about such themes as alcohol, violence, and women, and Bukowski answers willingly, losing himself in sometimes minute-long monologues. Amongst other things, Bukowski leads the small camera team through his parents’ house and his former neighbourhood, but the largest part of the interviews takes place in Bukowski’s flat or backyard. The documentary includes a scene in which Bukowski reacts violently toward his wife Linda Lee.

Jason C (es) wrote: I liked much more than the scores it got. The story is a bit messy but the lead character is different than most in the genre and the fact Kristen Wiig is so great at playing this odd character just elevates what probably could have been a really bad movie. She is the main reason to watch.

Yuri B (ca) wrote: "You're the man now dawg" ... such a great, great movie... Connery is awesome as always... & Brown was phenomenal in his own right.

Ted R (es) wrote: scott's worst movie!

Dallas D (au) wrote: A Wonderfully directed movie. Some may be turned away by it's over dramatic and, at times, predicable nature. Wonderful imagery and imaginative light work. A universally photogenic film. My personal favorite from Sternberg.

Rorshach S (ag) wrote: 42nd Street lacks both an interesting narrative focus and energetic dance numbers.

Vuk S (nl) wrote: After watching The Odyssey, which was really good, I borrowed this movie from my friend. I couldn't bear even the first 30 minutes of the movie. I like low budget movies, I am a great fan of B-movies but this is ridiculous. The effects are so bad you feel ashamed of watching the movie at all. And not just the effects, but along with the bad acting and story the movie seems really weird in a ridiculous way. The thing that bothered me the most was when I saw the effects done with the centaur. Now it seems like I am bitching too much about the effects, it is true that they don't matter if the movie is good, but if someone is making a movie about mythical characters and beings, they should at least do a better job with the special effects, otherwise do some other type of movie. I give this movie 1 star, since I didn't actually watch it till the end.

Josh P (br) wrote: Why was this even made when about 3 episodes of the TV show could have been instead

Hanna P (us) wrote: Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore compliment each other very well in there acting and signing in this movie i enjoyed this movie a great deal.

Jose Miguel G (ca) wrote: George Lazenby as Bond doesn't work, and the story couldn't get more ridiculous, and neither the poor editing or the cheesy special effects could've helped.
