Vibhooti M (us) wrote: Vibrant. Poignant. Every frame a work of art. Though a bit slow(which is the trademark of artistic love-stories). Maybe I'm a sucker for movies like this.

Anne F (au) wrote: The eponymous Edmond goes completely off the rails in this not very good film. We were given no sense of why he should suddenly flip, and the most horrific moments were utterly unbelievable. The were moments in which William H. Macy (Edmond) played his part very well, but he was up against a poor script and story.

Martin T (mx) wrote: John Ford's last film is one of his most thematically compelling, touching on issues of Christian hypocrisy, atheism, feminism and even a little bit of lesbianism. I was pretty stunned to find myself getting very involved, as Ford keeps things interesting and always moving along smoothly. Anne Bancroft is very good, and for the most part the rest of the cast holds their own (there are a handful of particularly lousy performances, though). The most off-putting element was the blatantly stage-bound set, I couldn't help but be distracted by its phoniness. Other than that, however, not bad at all... and quite a surprise to see such unusually progressive attitudes from Ford.

Alex C (de) wrote: This movie is ridiculous. The mall security guard carries a machine gun and opens fire on a guy for a simple assault on another patron, while Santa and kids are in the line of fire. It never really explains how the skin graft could cause her to mutate the way she did either. Cronenberg is crazy, which understandably results in strange sometimes confusing films, and a lot of his films deal with modern medicine/technology and bodily mutation as a result thereof, but this one just doesn't add up. See The Brood or Videodrome and pass on Rabid.
