(au) wrote: Great movie. Holds up well. Performances are natural and endearing. Song is great. But the Oscar for score mystifies me. Most of the score is repeated variations on the theme song. Over and over and over. That it won score over The Sand Pebbles is nuts.

The writing is sharp, and the "apes" do come across as quite charming, and just like the original there's a ton of political meaning and truth (government agencies are real bastards and not to be trusted), and the ending is pretty harrowing. Well worth a look for almost everybody.
(ru) wrote: Another gritty Samuel Fuller war film - not as gritty or dark as "The Big Red One" - but still an excellent of men under far. There's little jingoistic heroism in this film, and it's all the better for it.
