The Crying Wind

The Crying Wind

Toma Seikichi, 70, makes his living fishing from a small boat off the coast of Okinawa. He and his 12-year-old grandson Akira live in a small, tree-lined village in the northern part of the island which is surrounded by a white-sand beach and plots of pine and flowering bushes. On the cliff that skirts the shore sits an open-air burial ground containing the skull of a kamikaze pilot who was shot down during the last days of World War II. When the wind blows through the bullet hole in the skull, it produces a whistling sound. The locals call it the "Crying Head."

Robert F (br) wrote: This is not a quality film, it is a zombie slaughter staring Danny Trejo. As always stripper-esque actresses and over the top action scenes and film filters. Highly unoriginal and as always entertaining. Those rating it low, did you expect anything more? It's machete with zombies.

Scott T (us) wrote: A typical low budget movie style production. No hype , no big advertising resulting in a great film slipping through the net. Great story, violent scenes well thought out and I can seriously imagine someone having been through that our lead character has then they would be tempted to act in such a way. Not the cheesy ending that your standing big budget Hollywood movie brings.

Bryan A (ca) wrote: The movie has a new and interesting plot it's not that clich (C) story about a slasher and revenge no it's much more original and unique and may be the ending may have been dull and fast but at least the movie is trying I mean this movie is so original that the killer isn't even human it's more like the killer is faith

Werner Herzog and Klaus Kinski seem made for each other - they're both clearly more than slightly unhinged, and this epic tale of exploration in the Amazonian rainforest is often spectacular, not least in the gargantuan effort of dragging a massive steamer over a mountain. But for all their commitment and purpose, I also found it hugely problematic...Fitzcarraldo is pretty unlikeable. For all his lofty artistic ambitions to bring opera to the rainforest, it's basically a tale about money and stripping the natural resources out of the land, whether it's rubber plantations or hacking swathes of forest down simply to haul the ship over the mountain. The exploitation of the local tribes seems pretty blatant too.I'm glad I've seen it, but God it does go on...
