The Draughtsman's Contract

The Draughtsman's Contract

Peter Greenaway's first fiction feature (after the mock-documentary The Falls) made him immediately famous and was named one of the most original films of the 1980s by British critics. The action is set in the director's beloved 17th century. Ambitious young artist Mr. Neville (Anthony Higgins) is invited by Mrs. Herbert (Janet Suzman) to make 12 elaborate sketches of her estate. Besides money, the contract includes sexual favors that Mrs. Herbert will offer to the draughtsman in the absence of Mr. Herbert. Entirely confident in his ability to weave a web of intrigues, Mr. Neville eventually becomes a victim of someone else's elaborate scheme. The film is structured as a sophisticated intellectual puzzle like the ones popular in the 17th century.

It someway reminds Delta Force and Death Before Dishonour type of reaganian Golan Globus sionist fanfare in its B/W approach, but "muslim" approach makes this one fresh. Totally un-PC stuff in many levels and it feels great!

Andrew M (ag) wrote: Tarzan is a great Disney film and Disney portrays this film so well. Tarzan has a great plot and is very heartwarming. I would very much suggest this movie.

Matthew F (br) wrote: Ghostbusters has always been a timeless classic and still to this day it's fun to watch and you can always go back to it if you wanted to.The effects, the acting, the humour, the action and the villains Stay Puft, Zuul and Gozer are really 100% original in comparison to the filmation Ghostbusters that nobody appreciated at all.Out of all classic movies, it gets my highest rating so far: 5 out of 5

Steve W (br) wrote: Tsui Hark's debut film is atmospheric but badly paced. A swordplay murder mystery wuxia film, Butterfly Murders is about poisonous butterflies that are killing off martial arts warriors. A writer tries to unravel the mystery, but there's no action for a good hour. After the armoured villain makes an appearance, then things get interesting when the swords and weapons fly. Not without its basic merits, The Butterfly Murders showcases what would become a fruitful career for filmmaker Tsui Hark.

Simon D (de) wrote: I was hoping, and due to the name, sort of expecting this to be funny. Unbelievably, it is a genuine attempt at a dracula film. If you like Dracula films then this is certainly an original version and if you like the style of blaxploitation films, as I do, then it's a must. It's just not as good as I'd hoped.

I thought Clint and Shirly made a good team. There were some good action scenes and there were some pretty funny scenes as well. Like when Clint ask her what she was like before she became a nun. LOL. This was a very enjoyable movie.
