Of course, Blood Ranch is appropriately mean-spirited and shameless, but it offers nothing new or particularly exciting. In fact, pretty much everything interesting about Blood Ranch has already been done by better films, and its lead villain is a dead ringer for Rob Zombie's Otis B. Driftwood, except with a less convincing wig. Blood Ranch isn't a total waste of time, but there are definitely much better films out there to watch instead.

This leads to his rise in the world of upper class people and his subsequent romantic involvement with two women. A clandestine affair follows, leading him into an ever deepening quagmire until the only way out for him is to contemplate doing away with one of the women.

Conrad M (fr) wrote: when you think of Brazil, somehow the image of sand dunes doesn't register.... nevertheless, this movie has one of the most beautiful locations in the world... i;m sure it would suck to live there but a photo op would be priceless... now the film itself is really beautiful, very deep and self-reflective.... a couple of things i found could use some tweaking - the long dragging scenes are a bit too much to handle even with how beautiful the images are... the sparse dialogue and the generational fast forwards, including the multiple roles were particularly good though a bit confusing if you miss the markers..... amazing actors that fit the characters very well... as for Maria, who would have ever thought that growing up in the sand dunes would make you promiscuous.... ultimately, the most appealing aspect of the movie is how it portrays the most basic human conflict in having our freedom and choice...

Alan Hale and Dane Clark are great in supporting roles. The Tokyo Bay scene is particularly exciting. Outstanding cinematography, the score is excellent and the writing was nominated for an Academy Award. Impressive special effects. It is a little long at 135 minutes, but it seldom is slow. Very well done and I am sure it helped rouse the American citizens spirits at the time.

Paul D (gb) wrote: Why did George Clooney make this as a movie instead of as a six-part mini-series? There are too many stories and too many characters to fit neatly into a two hour movie. Each one of those sub-plots warranted a better treatment. And the movie is heavy-handed: it lacks dramatic tension, is choppy between the vignettes, and is over-laden with political-emotional messages.
