Travis G (kr) wrote: Just about the only thing that soars with Sully is the filming tactics used by director Clint Eastwood, and the effects that were used at the very end of the film when the water landing was shown. Aside from that, Sully had issues that are too great to ignore. The main issue being the script of the film. There was very little for the audience to sink their teeth into when it came to the scripts investigation into Captain Sullenberger's performance on the day of the crash. Because of this, the plot development in the film was slow and the meeting at the end of the film felt anticlimactic and deflating. The next problem was the characters in the film. This again relates back to the script which depicts little to no character development and allows little room for veteran actor Tom Hanks to express who Captain sullenberger is and what he was going through. Aaron Eckhart, who is no acting slouch himself, had little more scriptural room to flesh out his own character, although there did seem to be a little more opportunity for Eckhart to play with the role. All in all, the film fell short of what could have possibly been a powerful and moving experience. The story itself was intriguing, but that is where the magic of the film ends. If not for the hype of the the true story that surrounded the miracle of the Hudson, there would not be much that stands out about Sully.

But Quentin Tarantino said somewhere that this was his favorite Woody Allen flick since 'Manhattan' i think, so i had to give it a try. Its not a terrible movie, its very watchable and the beats of Allen's storytelling always has that kind of grandma's cookies type feel to them if that makes sense.
