Vadim D (ru) wrote: It's entertaining and has two charming leads, but little substance in this offbeat romantic comedy. There are elements of Coen Brothers' style, but definitely not their usual whimsy.

Joshua M (mx) wrote: Very fresh and clean. A little hard to get over Yves Montand's character was too serious for a musical. Thought the back-head comb over was rad. And of course, Ms. Streisand. Her voice makes me feel like I'm drowning in a tub of thick paint.
Meredith A (jp) wrote: It's not often a film comes along that shows immense bravery. The issue of reform facilities like these is not often discussed, let alone explored through film. In Grashaw's gritty exploration, he follows Brad Lunders (Boudousque), a brooding teenager who's been in the wrong place at the wrong time. When he's sent to a camp with other troubled boys, he begins to question his punishment. Grashaw vacillates between growth and decay, revealing ways in which the facility implements strength in the boys as well as tears them down. The story unfolds into a brutal mess, with Brad at the center. Not only is the film entertaining and thought provoking, posing questions about how to correct bad behavior, it's also a realistic depiction. A number of young boys have been hurt or killed in these camps and Grashaw has used the film as a launching pad to discuss the epidemic.

Yancy P (ru) wrote: A strikingly raw and realistic story of a poor, young woman in desperate search for something meaningful in her life. Her back-story and motivations are relatively ambiguous. We are simply shown a chapter in her life, and the struggles she faces and sacrifices she must make within. Wendy and Lucy is a subtle and quiet film, but still manages to hold a great amount of emotional power and depth to it, as does Michelle William's stunning performance. A wonderful film.
