The Forbidden Dance

The Forbidden Dance

Filmed during the Lambada dance craze (if there really ever was one), this film tries to have a social conscience. A princess (Laura Herring) in the Amazon rain forests tries to fight a conglomerate threatening the forests by going to Los Angeles. There she links up with a rich kid (Jeff James) who tells her that she must get on tv to succeed with her mission. Quick as a wink the two come up with the idea of winning a lambada dance contest that is getting tv attention. Sid Haig also co-stars as a witch doctor who accompanies the princess and provides some humor.

Princess Nisa tries to fight a conglomerate threatening her Brazilian rainforest home by going to Los Angeles. When a young man who loves to dance crosses her path, and together they enter a televised lambada contest, Nisa might have found the answer to her prayers. . Taylor O (de) wrote: This movie was pretty gay. I wanted to shoot myself in the face. Cause it was that horrible. This movie, I can't put into words how much I hate it. It jumped from being sunny to rainy? What the hell. Then there was a tornado for like, half a second and then it was sunny again! I HATE THIS MOVIE. And it also made me have more of an anger problem than I already have. Where's the blood and guts? The shootings? It needs more violence!

Sarah H (de) wrote: There really isn't a story or much of a plot and the main character stands around a lot talking to a figment of her imagination.

Qudsiyah M (fr) wrote: much better than the recent rom-com hindi movies!!

Danielle U (br) wrote: With a movie where one of the central themes is based on random trivia, this seemed like a film that would be right up my alley, but the random trivia was actually quite minimal throughout despite the movie's description. The film focused more on the central character and the fact that he has lived much of his life not wanting to rock the boat with his father or bothering to think about what he really wants to do with his life. It's obvious from the start what his father wants for him, but is that really what he wants or is he just going along with it because he isn't sure of anything he likes doing besides trivia. Though the film is filled with some elements that will have you thinking about your own life and what it is you really want, it just doesn't hold your attention; it lacks the depth needed to keep the viewer enthralled. I've seen better.

Bengel W (gb) wrote: Sex is defiantly a story line in this movie. Different and rather shallow and empty American lives are entertainingly followed. Filming is intimate and allows the actors to bring out the characters with humor and fun creating lots of laughter in the serious themes that come out of the script. Third marriage statistics means 97 percent possibility of divorce, so why would you. Nibbles: Wedding Cake.

JohnnyLee T (jp) wrote: I probably would have given this film 5 stars after seeing it when it first came out, but it has dated. It's far too long (I had to take an intermission break) and the production is for the most part uninspired and pedestrian ( due to Wyler's direction). But Streisand is loveable as Fanny, and magnificent - and Omar Sharif charming as Nicky. The amount of talent on and off-screen in putting this all together is stupendous, but when the songs virtually disappear after the intermission and the marriage story takes centre stage, it loses its musical purpose and drops away. Worth seeing for Babs' tour de force.

Francisco L (ag) wrote: Good musical movie with the great Barbara Streisand performance that makes this film better, some scences make this film boring, but with an interesting story. Barbara Streisand is the key for success of this movie.

Michael T (gb) wrote: Ecstatic Irving Berlin crowd-pleaser with a top score including "Be Careful, It's My Heart," "You're Easy to Dance With," "Happy Holidays," and the Oscar-winning "White Christmas." Also includes Astaire's "Let's Say It With Firecrackers."

Michael N (kr) wrote: A terrible score and a frustrating conclusion almost derail the whole thing. Luckily, the performances elevate this to greatness, especially from Toby Regbo, who is so unbelievably good that it's hard to take your eyes off of him.

Tim S (us) wrote: If you can't enjoy Deadly Prey, then there must be something genuinely wrong with you. Seriously, this movie is pretty bad, but so bad that it's good. I mean it's got Cameron Mitchell in it, the king of the bad movie actors, so what's not love? How about a movie that blatantly rips off Rambo with just as much silly action but little to no emotional impact? Oh, and the dialogue is much cornier and laughable? Yep, that's this movie, but it's pretty damned enjoyable. It doesn't feature any famous actors, and I can understand why. A sequel was recently released called Deadliest Prey, which I haven't seen, but I can't imagine it being as good. Uh, well, good is a relative term. Good/bad is more appropriate. If you're a fan of bad movies at all and you're looking for some cheap, cheesy 80's action, then this is right up your alley.
