(ru) wrote: There's something about the paranoia of seventies films that I absolutely love - and I'm always down for a good conspiracy discussion. Also, some of the scenes in this movie are total camp, but I adore total camp. Embrace those 'fros and sideburns... A great view, in my book. Classic O.J. and Waterston, too.

Initially, he does a great job of avoiding conflict and staying unnoticed; however, when he confides in one prisoner, and his story becomes known, it will be harder and harder for him to avoid interactions with other inmates. "Jesus help me!" "Because man won't." Robert Young, director of Roosters, Human Error, Rich Kids, Saving Grace, and JT, delivers Short Eyes. The storyline for this picture is very intense and well written. I was thoroughly impressed by the characters (which reminded me slightly of The Warriors). The ultimate resolve was brilliant and the acting was amazing. The cast includes Bruce Davison, Jose Perez, Nathan George, and Luis Guzman. "You need help." "I'm afraid to find it." Short Eyes was a movie my wife discovered while flicking through the channels and DVR'd based on its potential. I found this movie fascinating and well delivered. The end is brilliant and a perfect turn of events for this wonderful character study. This is not your average prison drama and is definitely worth your time. I strongly recommend this picture. "I give less than a fuck." Grade: A
(ca) wrote: Aside from being one of the few great Korean War films, 'Fixed Bayonets' offers a stellar vision of the "classic war" cinema. It's not exactly like the usual setup, but it's better for standing out in its own unique way. It's very dark, and also breath-taking at certain points; especially when a fallen comrade gets stuck in the middle of a minefield. In just 92 minutes, the film chronicles some great action sequences while at the same time developing a handful of convincing characters. All of them have something to say about their duty as ranking officers, and even though we only see them in combat, we still get a good idea as to who they are as people with hopes and dreams of coming home.An Excellent period film!
Hyvaa draamaa
(mx) wrote: I cannot stop crying, it is that good. Barbara Stanwyck plays a wokring class girl who marries a rich man but never loses her edge. She is devoted to her daughter even though she divorced her husband and does everything within her power to make her happy. I can't tell you the ending, but boy is it going to be going into my DVD player come Mother's Day!
(ag) wrote: The biggest problem with this film is understanding what everyone is saying. The dialogue is almost incomprehensible - eccentric, slurred and too rapid. That aside, it was an absorbing film. Watch with the subtitles on.
(ca) wrote: Emotionally satisfying, and fast paced enough to leave you with little time to dwell in the questions. Visually stunning it may be, the camera work also, to my untrained eye, perfectly conveyed the emotional tension and intensity of the scene.
