The Gig

The Gig

Every week, six men from various walks of life get together to play music for their own satisfaction. Trombonist Wayne Rogers is a used-car dealer; drummer Daniel Nalbach is a mother-dominated dentist; clarinetist Jerry Matz is a somewhat self-centered music teacher; trumpeter Warren Vache could have been a professional musician, but opted for a socially convenient wealthy marriage; and bass violinist Stan Lachow prefers to keep to himself the rest of the week. What happens to this informal aggregation when the opportunity arises for a paying gig at a Catskills resort forms the heart of this picture. Dissention in the ranks comes about when Lachow can't make the engagement, and is replaced by veteran musician Cleavon Little, who is disdainful of being surrounded by amateurs. The Gig is a model "small" picture, a clear labor of love for writer/ director Frank D. Gilroy.

Anima M (it) wrote: Sweet - but in an honest, messy, real-life kind of way. Great cast.

Mithun G (it) wrote: Interesting but confusing.

Berni E (gb) wrote: I knew I would be disappointed with this. Thank goodness for the music.

Warren M (it) wrote: Sandler and Barrymore have great chemistry in another on screen collaboration! Ranges from funny to awkward, but an overall good time!

Robin (gb) wrote: Roy: We're going to do "Cosi Fan Tutte", the opera. Doug: What, Little Richard wrote an opera? Tutti Fruiti the opera? Roy: It's an opera by Mozart, you low life. I loved this movie, the characters were very entertaining and funny. My favorite was Roy, he was a hoot and a force that can't be reckoned with. Crazy characters (literally) plus Mozart, a perfect match.

Weul S (nl) wrote: dare I say it about the decade that influenced me the most, but this is one of the best of the eighties. a Fellini-esque feminist comedy about an aging Casanova & the parade of jilted women in his wake. this film contains the right amount of screwball to add levity to the seriousness of infidelity.
