David I (jp) wrote: It has been years since I actually watched a Scooby Doo animated movie. Being a fan of the original series. I was hesitant to watch this particular movie. I was around when Scooby Doo was sharing his TV series with Dynomutt during the 1970's as part of the Saturday morning cartoon era. But, now that I have finally seen it. As kooky as it was, it was enjoyable. I even got to watch a few DVD/Blu-Ray extras from the original Scooby Doo shows that I had watched when I was a kid. That had brought back memories from me. This movie and the extras made it all worth it. While I do still miss the person who did Scooby Doo's original voice. The new Scooby Doo's voice actor who plays him does a great job carrying on his legacy.

It has a unique surrealist animation style that manages to stay oddly grounded. In other words, it wasn't some psychoactive drug trip but more like taking a look at the world through Salavador Dali's eyes. However what struck me the most while watching this film was how everything was animated to extenuate ugliness and imperfection. None of the surroundings and characters looked like you see in most animated films, either hyper-realistic or like unblemished porcelain dolls; everything is drawn with blatant, over-exaggerated, and warped features. These features define each character as well as they instantly evoke what thoughts and feelings the director wants you to associate with them. The character's exaggerated features also allow the film to progress without almost any actual dialogue. Contextual clues and facial expressions were more than enough to conduct entire conversations as well as progress the story line without ever saying a word. This makes the movie accessible to people of all tongues without the subtitle stigma that many people have with watching foreign films. In conclusion, while this film is not for the causal movie watcher, it is still a beautifully imperfect work of hand-drawn art that is an experience that goes far beyond mere entertainment.

Niet direct het spannende orginele verhaal, maar wel goed vertolkt door de hoofdrolspelers, vooral de nieuwe sherrif speelt zijn rol subliem :-) Goed voor een filmavondje in een luie zetel!

Michael Gough plays a mad scientist who is believed to have died in a plane crash in Africa only to turn up in London a year later with a monkey under his arm. He had managed to escape from the plane just before it crashed along with his experimental equipment........you see your already smiling aren't you!

I was interested in much of it, good acting and not bad writing, but the direction made it feel like a prolonged soap opera. I enjoyed the deregulated airlines without security. Biff M (de) wrote: This silent comedy from Yasujiro Ozu may be one of the most purely entertaining movies ever made. Unfortunately I approached the movie somewhat like homework, but ten minutes into it I was captured and actually had to remind myself to look for the Ozu trademarks (they are there, by the way). The editing is razor sharp and maximizes characterization, story, and above all, comedy. Though the film has its dark side (dealing as it does, with youthful disillusionment) its focus on the two young brothers who initially struggle for acceptance from their peers gives the movie an Our Gang/Little Rascals flavor that makes me think that Ozu must have seen the popular Hal Roach short films. Highly recommended!

With one location and two actors there's only so much that you think you'd be able to do, but the makers of this film prove that even with little content you can still make something thrilling and inventive. Also, the ending is absolutely bone-chilling and my jaw physically dropped. As an avid movie-watcher, jaw-dropping moments rarely happen for me anymore. Scenic Route is a crowd-pleasing, smartly written character study with commendable performances by Josh Duhamel and Dan Fogler
