In the early 20th century a village experienced a series of inexplicable murders. All the victims were young men who had been to stone. The perpetrator of these deaths was a being so repulsive that she transformed the onlooker using the power of her deadly stare. Much of the time the creature took the form of a beautiful and seductive woman, but during periods of the full moon she becomes a living horror, vicious and deadly. A professor has come to investigate the deaths, bringing with him his beautiful assistant whose knowledge of the Gorgon is more intimate than anyone would ever realise.

(ag) wrote: It's a testament to how far the career of the late Brittany Murphy had fallen as her last final starring role was in a original Syfy film, albeit one of the better ones. Megafault is utterly ridiculous and completely implausible from start to finish yet still manages to provide some light entertainment. The film opens up with a demolitions expert blowing up a series of mountains (just why he would be doing that is never explained) which somehow manages to trigger an enormous earthquake which threatens to rip right across the entire US. This is put down to a mega fault in the earth's crust and it's up seismologist Brittany Murphy and our said demolitions expert played by E.R's Eric La Salle to try and save the day with the help of the military and a satellite capable of creating earthquakes. Yes, their plan is to stop an earthquake by creating another one!Well first up, given that it stars Murphy, La Salle and Bruce Davison of X-Men fame, the acting is mostly above average for a SyFy movie although not even this lot can make some of the awful dialogue sound good. The effects are what you would expect, mostly dodgy looking although there are some very good effects work when it comes to showing destroyed cities. The story is utterly ridiculous and will have any physicist tearing their hair out but there can be no doubting its entertainment value. As will all SyFy movies it zips along at a nice pace and provides plenty of action. It all gets a little sillier as it goes along, the climax will have the laughing your head off at how stupid it is, but remains fun throughout. The dialogue is rubbish and the effects not great but everything is ok in this entertaining piece of rubbish.Anyone who watches a SyFy original film will have an idea of what they are letting themselves in for and MegaFault doesn't disappoint. Utterly ridiculous throughout but entertaining, at least Brittany Murphy fans can be safe in the knowledge that her final film was one of the better SyFy originals.

It's more than just another men trying to pick up women comedy, that we've seen thousands of times. The script by Jon Favreau is sharp, hilarious, and most importantly, real. Mike is a struggling comedian who just made the move to Hollywood after being left by his girlfriend of six years. He mopes around and whines about his lost love. Mike's friend, Trent, tries to get him to get back out there. Mike, Trent, and some others cruise around Hollywood from bar to bar, trying to pick up girls and have a good time. Swingers is a fun time, with great performances from Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn. The dialogue is about as good as it gets and the characters are people you know. The film is authentic and has that feeling of late night comedy, while being something much more.
(ca) wrote: Impossibly Awrful! But, Great Cinematography and Film ScoreThis movie is so amazingly, impossibly melodramatic! It's just so over the top that you can't help yourself from laughing at a certain point. And, what is that point?(SPOILERS) At this point, every tragedy imaginable has befallen this family. One after another, people die for the sake of dying, to create "drama!" But, when Anthony Hopkins emerges from his homestead, having had a stroke, with a Popeye-type squinched-down eye, and a small blackboard strung around his neck so he can communicate, I just laughed. I know that wasn't the intention of the filmmakers, but, how could you not? Add to that, the "Trials of Tristan," the Godlike son who endlessly goes through one soul-stirring crisis of the soul after another! Way, WAY too much! (END SPOILERS)Basically, the whole movie is like "A River Runs Through It" - The Telenovela Version! All the great cinematography and setting, but impossibly heavy-handed "storytelling" in place of the great story of Redford's film. And yet, I keep watching this stupid thing time and again for John Toll's gorgeous cinematography, and James Horner's great film score. But, as a film, it's howlingly awful!
