Sidney Lumet's adaptation of the acclaimed Mary McCarthy novel. It's 1933, and eight young women are friends and members of the upper- class group at a private girl's school, about to graduate and start their own lives. A promising opening unfortunately heads into a painfully drawn out, unexciting and unfunny side trip to an island jungle. Maybe the broad comedy here would has played better with Chinese audiences? Maybe. It's a mess. Thankfully things then start to pick up. There's some classic Chan action in the forger's factory and an impressive free fall finale, as Jackie fights his way, hurtling down from a plane to an active volcano.Perhaps what I've just seen is as an incomplete Western edit but this film is terribly flawed. However, IF this is to be Jackie's last action film then at least the last last two acts are fun and exciting, and a good way for the greatest ever action star to go.

I found it to be gripping leaving you to make moral judgments, right vs wrong. Makes you look at how our legal system works in some cases and asks you to see how the victims feel when justice is tossed aside. Making you ask yourself what would you do ?
(it) wrote: The concept is theoretically good, but the execution is done with great affect. There's so much effort to demonstrate how "normal" quadriplegics are that the acting shows (in some parts), and "normal" becomes excessive.
(es) wrote: The fact that the movie is based so loosely on the true story and Samuel L. Jackson's voice choice is why this movie receives this rating.
