John O (ca) wrote: Compressing White's lenghty, multi-layered tragicomic masterpiece into a film of under two hours was always going to be a near impossible task. The film makes a reasonable stab at it, but one comes away with an edited impression of the book, rather than a fully-realized cinematic recreation. Rampling is fantastic as the rampaging, egotistical, carnivorous Mrs Hunter, though, and Rush and Davis bring her appalling, pitiable children brilliantly to life - 10 out of 10 to the actors.

This doesn't mean it's lacking in humor though, even if the black humor is often a bit too harsh, and certainly not in line with traditional Hollywood formats, for some tastes, if you can stomach some of the darker parts, and are willing to see the other side of it's comedy farce half-mask, you'll walk away from this movie with a smile on your face and a song in your heart. It's not just an absurd dark comedy, it's an inspiring tale about staying virtuous in an cynical and dirty world, and the good that can be done when you don't loose sight of what's important.

Andrew M (kr) wrote: On the surface, a remake of Romeo & Juliet (or West Side Story, depending on your values), but stunning cast (save the near-wooden but attractive leads) and Ferrara's brilliant, sleazy and dangerous New York City atmosphere make it breathe and live. I am totally in love with Ferrara's New York...He makes me actually believe it IS the centre of the universe, whereas other filmmakers merely piss me off with their city's self-promotion. A great film.

Sergio M (de) wrote: i really liked this, especially the visual aspects of it. i loved the 60s overstylised retrofuture and the op-art fashion. this film is a masterclass in design. and i enjoyed the story, too, i actually found it quite gripping... up until the end. c'mon, i know they 'had to' get romantically involved, but the very last scene on the plane was completely unnecesary. oh well, it was the 60s, i guess.

Nate T (ag) wrote: This has to be one of the best films in the series. Rich atmosphere, deft direction and acting... On Blu-Ray.

Hannah D (jp) wrote: This is a very exciting British thriller about a runaway London train. I really like films set on trains, so I knew this would appeal. I was not disappointed as it really lived up to my expectations, perhaps even exceeded them. It is always important to me to get to know the characters and therefore emphasise with their situation, and I felt this film really handled that very well.
