(mx) wrote: A thoroughly derivative but still somewhat enjoyable found footage horror film, The Bell Witch Haunting is perhaps most creepy in its somewhat blatant attention to the supposedly teenage girls' bodies in the films. There is definitely some male gaze going on here....The found footage aspect does not always make complete sense, but the movie is relatively enjoyable nonetheless if you are someone like me who still wants to watch every example of the genre.

(es) wrote: This second 'Candyman' film promises more than it delivers, is marred by an unnecessarily slow story, and over-acting. The title character's depicted history is very well done and intriguing, but the film offers very little else of interest.
(es) wrote: A surprisingly minimally manipulative doc that chronicles this explosive time in American history that shines with inspiration as well as irony of activist movements of any kind.

(kr) wrote: Eh, no sense of time. Lackluster art direction and it took me half the movie to get the characters straight.

(mx) wrote: It's weird to see Shirley Temple all grown up and John Wayne & Fonda in their early age. This simple tell has genres of all ages and both genders: western, action, romance and even a few bits of comedy. The plot is as pleasant as a light novel. You'll be arguing and talking to yourself from the far side of the screen.
(mx) wrote: Wartime propoganda piece disguised as historical romance. The portrayal of Lord Horatio Nelson battling the tyranny of Napoleon is clearly meant to stir British audiences against the Nazi threat. No wonder it was Churchill's favorite. And that's the only point of distinction. The romance in this movie is awfully tepid, even more surprising (or perhaps less so) when you considered that Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier were married at the time. There's no spark, they really don't seem all that interested in each other. The movie is generally well-done but it just has no oomph to it.

(ru) wrote: This movie was amazing, I see very little love for it on these boards and I cannot quite understand why. Its a perfect modern adaptation of a film noire, with a mix of racial prejudice. I thought the story was fantastic, very interesting, a good mystery, and an interesting background. I have always been a fan of the look and style of the 50s through the lens of the modern camera. Great flick if you have a chance check it out.
