Frances H (ag) wrote: A very hard film to watch, but one that makes one understand why war veterans have four times the suicide rate as civilian populations. In China, this film was criticized because the character of Kadokawa was portrayed as a person of conscience, but that is what makes this film so real and gut wrenching. The German John Rabe is also portrayed sympathetically. In any war, there are good and bad on both sides. What makes this film such a good anti-war movie is that very not of realism that makes us live the horrors of war along with the characters. There is another lesson here too--be good to the conquered, because no matter how victorious you may be now, someday you may be the conquered too.

John W (it) wrote: It wasn't bad, it just couldn't decide what it wanted to be. Was it a supernatural Nazi film? Hard bitten grunt WWII movie? Zombie flick? Add to that confusion a slow plot, bad CGI FX, and a ending that feels like they just ran out of time and unfortunately, it won't satisfy fans of any of those genres

Brett B (au) wrote: Very strong performance by Giamatti, as usual he engrosses himself in the character. I really enjoyed that the real Harvey was in the movie, as well as older footage of his TV appearances. I think it gave a very true picture of who he is and who he was.

Ed C (fr) wrote: Should friendship stage to romance? Not as good as When Harry Met Sally, moved up from 1989 to 2000, with the screenplay dumbed down.Cinematography: 8/10 Good, but not exceptional.Sound: 8/10 Good, but not exceptional.Acting: 5/10 Again comparing to When Harry Met Sally, Freddie Prinze and Claire Forlani are not nearly as good as Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. The supporting cast is not as strong. Jason Biggs is particularly weak.Screenplay: 4/10 This is about 15 minutes of plot spread over 94 minutes. All the Jason Biggs scenes could be omitted without loss.

Cory A (de) wrote: I saw this movie about ten years ago but watched it again last night. It was even better than I remembered it to be. If you have any plans on watching it whatsoever, do not read the Flixter synopsis. It practically gives away the entire film.

Tristan G (mx) wrote: One of the most unsettling films you will ever see! I guarantee it!

Mark D (ru) wrote: After a few "downer" fliks, I thought I would pick something lighter to watch. This was definitely it. What a bizarre movie. There's a lot of funny moments here, but some of it is stretched a bit too far, and just gets obnoxious. Still, it was fun, and entertained me, and that's all I was really hoping for.

Riley O (nl) wrote: It's a B movie indefinitely but it'd be lying if it was said, it's not a good time of senseless action. It's entertainment.

Denise A (mx) wrote: A really good movie! Maggie Gyllenhaal is a wonderful actress! Enjoy all her work. Movie is kinda sad but life lessons learned.
