Serge L (ru) wrote: Some people compared this film to Margaret. Only the guilt theme is common, the films are completely different. The characters are dealing with it very differently. This film is short and moody, slow moving. I take it more as a vignette on the theme. The adolescent might as well have killed a neighbour's dog by accident and given the same response. The adolescent world is well rendered and I was again transported back in time. Definitely good for tv.

Tommy T (jp) wrote: Nine times out of ten any horror film starring a pornstar (the totally fuckable Jaqueline Lovell) spell dogshit. Not this time! This film is funny as hell and the six main characters are acted out brilliantly by a largely unknown cast (remember the guy from Total Recall with five kids to feed? he's in it!) and the script is genius, bragging insults such as "You castillian, cadaverous dillatont" It also has maybe the funniest private eye ever!

L'histoire a du mal prendre et ca manque de pripties et donc d'intrt. Certains dialogues et situations sont pourtant bien trouvs. Dommage...
Andy L (au) wrote: What is going on with this movie?? Most of it is like a bad episode of Dr Who. It even has Tom Baker in it, wearing what looks like an early design for the Bo Selecta make-up. The human-plant hybrids are just awful, and there's an uncomfortable mid-section featuring what were billed backed then as 'circus freaks' One of them is a girl who is clearly very anorexic and the others have various afflictions which are paraded onscreen. The whole thing leaves a bad taste. Then there's an excellent and ultimately touching scene within all this, when Tom Baker's character destroys a dinner party and then goes off to a prostitute. And at the forefront of it all is Donald Pleasance. Playing it completely straight despite the fact that the film is ridiculous.
Godwin G (ca) wrote: Not that tear-jerking. Trust me, if it wasn't for that ANNOYINGLY jolly music playing in the background on that parting scene, it would make it sadder. But I admit, this was one of the best Peanuts movies I've seen.
Luke J (au) wrote: Caught this on DVD yesterday. Loved the story. The soundtrack had a few songs in there Tarantino obviously stole for Inglorious Basterds, which was pretty funny. Great non-Leone spaghetti flick. 4 out of 5.
Scott W (ru) wrote: Excellent semi-documentary styled WWII propoganda piece about an infantry platoon, from call up to action in North Africa, with David Niven heading up a wonderful cast of British character actors. There is an exciting evacuation from a torpedoed troop ship and the battle at the end is very impressive.

Scott P (ca) wrote: *SPOILER WARNING*I went in knowing nothing about the film aside from its outstanding reputation and its spiralling poster. Perhaps it was the hype surrounding a movie considered one of the best of all time, but upon watching the final few minutes with horror and confusion, I was left ultimately dissatisfied. I understand the thematic values of the film and the introduction of the dolly zoom, as well as James Stewart's turn to the dark side, but it was a very odd movie. The first half is a slow affair of watching a former detective do his former job quite horribly. I guess in retrospect it's good to know he was being played a fool the entire time or else I'd still wonder if the person he was tailing had no awareness that the same car and man was twenty feet behind her the entire time barely making any attempt to conceal his actions, especially at the cemetery. Following him romancing another man's wife, which again absolves her of worse judgement for she isn't actually wed, it just goes off the rails and becomes a dark look at obsession.Take away the twist "revelation," which was explained right away leaving no mystery to follow, and it remains just as horrifying watching this man obsess over a dead loved one and change a stranger, make her dress like her, and take her to where she died. He knew because of a necklace. What if that wasn't truly the case? This man acts like a monster. Remove the letter and confession and he still remains a monster; the only difference is that he's no longer right. How far would it have gone if it was a different girl he tried to change for himself? Would it still have come to the bell tower down the road if there was no necklace? He went down a deep dark path, and the movie abruptly ends with a terrible fate. The fact that I'm thinking so much about the movie gives it some points, but there's quite a bit of this movie that just moves so slowly.
