Adam S (mx) wrote: Sphere contains some elements that should make it a shoe-in for at least a fun movie - it has an outrageous sci-fi plot that feels like a Doctor Who reject, it has a giant squid (seriously, those things are cool. I don't care who you are), and of course, it has Samuel L. Jackson. How, then, did director Barry Levinson, who directed such classics as "Good Morning Vietnam" and "Rain Man", manage to make this film completely and utterly boring. It's not like Jackson was the only name Levinson was working with either - the film stars the likes of Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, Liev Schreiber, Peter Coyote and, for some reason, Queen Latifah. But this slow paced, often non-sensical film has too many flaw to ignore.(One that I will point out, is Sharon Stone claiming that nocturnal sea snakes can't harm you during the day - as if their venom just goes on holiday or something at every nap break. Lazy writing.)It's a film that shows everything that was wrong with 90's sci-fi, and it isn't worth the effort of watching. Squid or no squid.
Susie L (fr) wrote: This movie is just so horribly bad, that you just have to see it to believe it. The dialogue, acting and fight scenes are so terrible that they are hilarious. This is pretty much how not to do a movie. I recommend it if you want to have a good laugh.
