(br) wrote: Quite good. A Newman family indy project set in Seattle. Toni Collette is very out there and attractive in this, the music business is given a once-over, and nobody gets hurt. Not one to rave about, however.

The sentimentality of the cast and crew behind the whole Troll 2 experience and it's massive fan base is what really makes this documentary worth watching. It reminds you that no matter how bad an artist you are, nothing will stop you from making your art.

(us) wrote: CAST OF THREE. Very underrated. Gritty, high-tension boiler room pot-boiler by David Mamet. Superb characterization and acting by Dennis Franz and Dustin Hoffman. There's a reason these highly gifted actors picked this project at the height of their powers. It provides keen insight into the criminal mind. Feels like a play. Watch a couple derelicts plan a revenge burglary for an imagined wrong. Everyone should watch this as an example of fine acting, superb characterization, and containment. ***This will teach you how to write relevant, effective dialogue in a completely dialogue-driven film.*** Despite being unpleasant, this is a must-see. Mostly one location. Ignore the low audience scores from the cretins. 74/45. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. ****1/2/*****

But it doesn't stop there.Assault on Precinct 13 is convincingly acted, specifically from Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fishburne who add good drama to the story as a suffered hero and helpful villain respectfully.Assault on Precinct 13 also harnesses good lighting, good film editing, quality cinematography, a good soundtrack and strong, mood-setting lighting. The plot of Assault on Precinct 13 is simplistic, albeit good plot with a supportive screenplay and a good amount of thrills thanks to the chilling atmosphere. When you consider that Assault on Precinct 13 is a remake of a low budget exploitation film by mastermind John Carpenter, and that it has a fairly standard budget, the quality of Assault on Precinct 13 is a little above average which is surprising. On the negative side, the plot is utterly predictable and so is the plot twist. Also, Assault on Precinct 13 is a fairly formulaic tale with much cliche and simplicity, but overall if you're a fan of action or escape films, then Assault on Precinct 13 is one to check out.
(it) wrote: slack animation and unbelievable action sequences are just the beginning in this animated batman film. the voices for the characters are sometimes not in time with the animated figures' mouth movements, which is just pathetic, and the villians are boring. boring pretty much covers every aspect of this film.
(ca) wrote: An intelligent, sombre science fiction film focusing on the waning days of planet Earth that - thanks to atomic weapons altering its orbit - is now hurtling directly toward the sun. Plague, drought, riots: all the usual end-of-times fence posts are here yet, this time, it isn't played for needless action or adventure sequences, rather, reported on dutifully by the film's central protagonist, a British newspaper reporter, determined to go down with the figurative ship (if need be) all the while recording things for future generations . . . if they ever come. Black and white, save for some artistic red tinting at the beginning and end (signifying the heat of the approaching star) and brilliantly directed on a small budget by Val Guest, this film plays like a feature length Twilight Zone - with all that that implies.
