Johnny T (ru) wrote: The rest of the film doesn't quite hit the same heights. Spud is a reasonably entertaining, if stock standard, coming-of-age tale about a vulnerable boy who overcomes bullying at boarding school by finding his own strengths. Young Aussie actor Troye Sivan is likable in the title role, and seems suitably fresh-faced and innocent - perhaps a little too boyish to credibly attract the attention of the more well-developed older girls. The Crazy Eight gang of teenage boys with whom he shares a dorm are uniformly excellent and capture the cruelty, immaturity and mischief of boys that age. You and your kids will have seen it all before but, if you're looking for a less brutal take on the ordeals of adolescence than the one offered by The Hunger Games, this could work. A touch more quirky than the average coming-of-age tale, there's a bit of schmaltz here, but this also brims with humour, heart and honesty. VERDICT: "In The Zone" - [Mixed Reaction] These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says buy an ex-rental or a cheap price of the DVD to own. If you consider cinema, ask for people's opinion on the film. (Films that are rated 2.5 or 3 stars)

And it didn't disappoint, although I did see the dubbed version, I would have preferred subtitles. It's hard to say anything about the acting with someone else's voice over the whole thing, but it was fab, I can see why it inspired so many films using the same name an similar stories, it does make me wanna watch more spaghetti westerns.
