The Law and Jake Wade
Jake Wade breaks Cling Hollister out of jail to pay off an old debt, though it's clear there is some pretty deep hostility between them. They part, and Jake returns to his small-town marshal's job and his fiancée only to find he has been tracked there by Hollister. It seems they were once in a gang together and Jake knows where the proceeds of a bank hold-up are hidden. Hollister and his sidekicks make off into the hills, taking along the trussed-up marshal and his kidnapped bride-to-be to force the lawman to show them where the loot is.

(it) wrote: For me this story is uneven and not fully developed I never quite sure what is the catalyst for any of the decisions eric and paul make and in the context of the narrative, while we are meant to feel sympathy or empathy for erik I found him to be a vain and ego driven narcissist, not at all someone I eouod "care" about

(gb) wrote: They Came Together was one of my favorite films of 2014, so it's hard for me to watch these Hollywood studio, bubble-gum romcoms with any sort of sincerity. This makes it that much more impressive that the cute performances from Grant and Bullock, quick pacing, and old-fashioned screwball dialogue bolster this otherwise generic script to be a good-natured good-time.

(ru) wrote: TV movie I enjoyed. Quite a few well known and soon to be better known actors filling out this cast. Philosophically the story is very interesting. Being a shy, generally quiet person myself, I identified with the character when I first saw it during my high school years. If people feel comfortable around you, either by feeling unthreatened or by taking a position of superiority, it's amazing what you may hear. As the current plot synopsis states, silence does offer protection and a little power.

(gb) wrote: Francois Truffaut's strange take on pulp noir, with plantation owner Belmondo shipping in a mail order bride and getting Catherine Deneuve... who looks nothing like the girl he's ordered, but (not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth, presumably) marries her anyway, only to realise -- shock! horror! -- she's out to rip him off for everything he owns. But this is merely a springboard for an odyssey of obsessive and often illogical love, as Belmondo tracks her down. What follows is weird, wonderful, wildly overlong and unwieldy. The lead performances are terrific, and Truffaut is, as always, playful with genre conventions, but he kind of gets stuck on the one track here, and the result is about 20 minutes too long.
(nl) wrote: This silly road movie has no shame with talking camels, musical numbers, and tongue and cheeck humor. Bob Hope and Bing Crosby have great chemistry and it really shows you when you pair up the right team, the comedy works no matter what. Grade: B+
