I read a review of this, written in 2004, that said the film probably won't be as powerful 10 years from now. Well, it's 10 years from 2004, and I think the film is still incredibly powerful. Director Jehane Noujaim may have just wanted to make a film about Al Jazeera and the western media's assault against it, but really he made a film about war and how we see "the enemy". It's a film about how the media controls the way we receive information. Are we really getting the full story? Is there real, objective journalism? Noujaim might posit that there's not, and that the idea of true objectivity in journalism is an impossibility.I love the honesty and the raw and rough production of this film. It feels incredibly authentic. Even if it's not, during the near 90 minute run time, you believe it is. You are drawn into the lives of these people, and you care about what happens to them. You are outraged alongside of them, and you feel the weight of what is going on.Control Room proves that there are no "clean" wars. There are always civilian casualties. We need journalists to remind us of the civilians casualties and the cost of war, so that we are hesitant to engage in it. So that we can be a country that doesn't rush to war, but only engages in war when absolutely necessary.

After all, I had just seen a movie (America America) that was woefully too long and painfully dull in some stretches. But Anne is never dull or boring, and the movie's running time is more of a blessing then anything else, because this is a fascinating story, the acting here is so good, that you don't realize the time whizzing by. Richard Burton is here playing Henry the Eighth (I am, I am, Henry the Eighth I am) who seriously needs some marriage counseling happening, as he goes through many wives at a drop of a hat, finding the feeblest excuse to hold his hat on. Genevive Bujold plays the ill-fated Anne Boleyn, the most famous of his wives. It's funny how I think I know everything I needed to know about these characters when I watched this, but I soon found out that I knew very little. According to the movie, Boleyn was adamantly opposed to the wedding at first. She was in love with someone else, and didn't want to give that up. The serious implications that Henry VIII would face when he divorced Queen Catherine is also discussed too. (And here I thought he had her killed!).. Burton and Bujold are fabulous here, it's quite amazing they didn't win Academy Awards for their performances here. The film is very nicely designed and laid out, with lots of apparent real locations. This was quite a delight!
