Bindu C (br) wrote: Shaadi Ke Side Effects starts with the apparent one-night stand between a frustrated husband (due to wife's endlessly watching TV serials) and a frustrated wife (due to a workaholic husband). The Director Saket Chaudhary has made this as a sequel to his first movie - Pyar Ke Side Effects (starring Rahul Bose and Mallika Sherawat).Sid (Siddharth), essayed by Farhan Akhtar and Trisha, played by Vidya Balan try to keep the passion and fire alive in their relationship through quirky games. The director tries to build up the plot slowly but definitely the dialogues have kept a few shots very realistic. Probably it is the story of almost every household (Ekta is trying to narrate ?? ?? ?? ?????) that a couple very much in love with each other takes their relationship to the next level to marriage and later to parenthood. Movie certainly gives an insight into the fact that the initial love, care, concern, passion vanishes, rather the very intention of enjoying the togetherness through marital bliss fails.?? ??? ???? ??, ?? ?? ???? ?????? ???? ???? ???? ?? ??? ???, ?? ?? ???? ??????? ?? ???? ????? ?? ??? ?Why so ??? Sid is in constant fight with the self and wants to enjoy his singleton days and enjoy parties, friends, watching sports etc. and on the other hand Trisha is in constant nagging mode due to complexities of post-delivery anxiety syndromes (weight gain, leaving career for motherhood). All Trisha can think off is in regard to the baby and all Sid can think off how "it used to be earlier". The communication between them hits a low pitch and frequency. Ranvir (Ram Kapoor), brother-in-law of Sid advises him to spice up his marital life with occasional white lies, and having some "Me-Time" and re-living the joys of a carefree single life. The movie depicts that one is not able to appreciate what is in the hands and looks out to escape from daily mundane and monotonous life.Crucial piece of advice by Sid : if the male partner commits mistake, please apologize, and in case the female partner commits mistake, still the male partner has to apologize and life would go on...Mothers feel that they are instinctively the best mothers in the world whereas the fathers have to take special efforts to be the 'best dad in the world'.I kept wondering, aren't certain trivial reasons cause marital drudgery, relationship failures, infidelity issues and extramarital affairs ??? I felt that every couple must watch the movie not because the movie is great but because it would definitely give insight into how we perceive our marital relationship, how we look at our partner, how we treat our partner, how we handle the commitment of togetherness, how we cope up with the transition from being a single to a couple, to being parents, how we handle our love, how we take the relationship / situations / partners for granted, how one tries to generate a feeling of jealousy / insecurity in the other, how we point our fingers at our partners but ultimately end up doing the same 'mistake' ... Some shots take a dig at all these things in a humoursitic manner.Farhan is natural, spontaneous with his straight faced wits. Vidya is believable. This movie is being told from the perspective of Sid, though Vidya's perception is also shown in certain shots.Of course the movie has its own flaws. The plot could have been handled far more brilliantly. It is bizarre to see a struggling musician being able to manage a pretty decent lifestyle in spite of the transition of status from double-income to single-income. A few characters are introduced just to stretch the story. Other cast viz. Vir Das (room partner to Sid), Gautami Kapoor (Trisha's sister-in-law), Rati Agnihotri (Trisha's widowed mother), Purab Kohli (Shekhar - a neighbor), Ila Arun (Maid) are completely wasted in the movie. One good aspect of the movie is that it is without any melodrama.Music (Music Direction - Pritam Chakraborty; Lyrics - Amitabh Bhattacharya, Guest Lyricist - Mikey Mclleary) is not very promising.Cinematography is ok, nothing special to point out.Costumes of Farhan suits to the tone of the movie but Vidya should have been given a few good costumes.Shaadi ke Side Effects has virtually no side effects, it is all about how one perceives.

Dan G (it) wrote: Before watching this documentary I was hoping the focus would be more on Morton Downey Jr's tv show than anything else. And, lo and behold, it was! Obviously his brand of trash tv had its followers in the late 80s, enough for (what seemed unlikely back then) national syndication. The physicality and mean-spiritedness of his his could actually teach Jerry Springer some lessons. Overall a great telling of the man's tv show and his personal life (he was a seedy chap).

Grant K (ca) wrote: Roger Ebert said it best: "This film is cheerfully ignorant, manipulative, slanted, cherry-picks quotations, draws unwarranted conclusions, makes outrageous juxtapositions (Soviet marching troops representing opponents of ID), pussy-foots around religion (not a single identified believer among the ID people), segues between quotes that are not about the same thing, tells bald-faced lies, and makes a completely baseless association between freedom of speech and freedom to teach religion in a university class that is not about religion."

Debbie D (es) wrote: his father basically had a pity party when he wrote the screen play.... Jesus his father's point of view had nothing interesting going on with it..... its all just him in shell for an hour and a half, not worth the watch.

Leland S (de) wrote: this movie was good at first, and then it turned a little too dramatic for my taste. Then they try and make you feel good at the end, but it just didn't work for me. Sorry Rich!!!

Patrick M (ca) wrote: silly to some, but for me, it was awesome.

Joshua Y (au) wrote: Pretty good movie. Not incredible, but good.

Justin A (es) wrote: The puppetry is horrible, the script is beyond dumb, yet it's not as bad as you might expect. It's still bad, but just not THAT bad. It's pretty funny at times with the script being stupidly convenient (this is the guy that wrote The Dark Knight, so I guess that makes sense). Like the girl that was sleeping in the vents for... no reason. She shows up midway through and dies right away. What was the point? And the two detectives are no just partners, but... boyfriend and girlfriend? And they're having a kid?! How convenient! It's also a really cheap looking movie. The entire thing was shot in what I'm assuming is the building Full Moon usually used to build sets. Only, instead of building a set they just said it was a warehouse and stacked cardboard boxes all over the place. Good money saver, but looks cheap as hell.Still, it has its moments. Somehow the dark setting and imagery of toys can be kind of unsettling. People with these kinds of phobias would probably be terrified to come across this movie. The acting is also decent overall. The leads are pretty good, even if the supporting cast was terrible. You would expect far worse from this kind of movie. It's a pretty quick and short movie so it's not a complete waste of time. It has some value to it, though mostly as an "after midnight, nothing else on TV" kind of movie. This is the kind of movie you stop on while flipping the channels, only to find yourself engrossed in the movie because of how stupid it is.

Alexander R (fr) wrote: This outdated musical is an endearing but misplaced historical anachronism. Overall acting is poor and the singing is worse; the singing is actually so bad it's hard to judge the quality of the music. Still, there are some charming moments to be had in this dated clunker.

John G (es) wrote: What can I say? Elizabeth Taylor, romance, and an exotic location. This movie gets five (5) stars from me!! A must see.

Jacob F (ru) wrote: An effective drama about a mother and her clever, but evil son. Great acting from the three actors, especially Tilda Swinton

Thaabiet D (gb) wrote: I dont know if the other reviewers was watching the same movie, this is a classic in my opinion among the likes of the Last Boyscout and Bad Boys, Don johnson and Mickey Rourke compliment each other well, the action was great for at the time it was made, again this was never gonna win an acadamy award, but if its action comedy you want, I recommend this Bad Boy movie.
