The level of performance is mind-boggling (forget that these are high school students, then 30+ year alumni - many of whom hadn't played since the mid '70s). The devotion and love they feel for their teacher and for each other is as moving as the music is amazing. As a film it leaves some questions unanswered-- you want it to be longer, to go further behind the scenes of the band's history and people's lives. But it's an unforgettable experience.
(gb) wrote: I knew this was going to suck from the start, but I only saw it because I was bored.PLOT:In this prequel to the mockbuster Transmorphers, an ex-troop, his girlfriend (Jennifer Rubin), and her cop uncle have to figure out why robots are trying to take over the Earth and killing people. Simple sic-fi plot executed very badly.ACTING:The acting is soooo, sooo bad that it's laughable. Rubin's dreadful, the ex-troop was bad, but the cop uncle was surprisngly decent for a movie of this stature. The rest of the acting except for one more person maybe was laughable and intolerable. Pain isn't crossed right, love is jumbled, and fear is bland.SCORE:Indie music that actually isn't that bad.EFFECTS:The effects were all cheap computer programs, but they weren't the worst I've seen. At some parts, it gave off that indie movie feel, but at some I laughed and shook my head. The prop and sound effects were truly pathetic. I laughed my ass off.OTHER CONTENT:This movie is purely bad and can be laughed at more than hated. I gave it a one-up because of its ability to make me laugh. The only reason I really watched this is because I was bored and the explosions looked cool.OVERALL,a horrible mockbuster with a badly executed plot, horrible acting, decent indie score, a mix of laughable and pure indie feeling effects, and the ability to be laughable bad.

(es) wrote: This is delightfully zany at times and painfully irritating at other times. There is some slick editing and fancy cinematography throughout, but in these instances, this is style over substance. However, I do enjoy the weirdness. The script is extremely flawed and flat-out doesn't make sense at times. The old guy reminds me of a Belgian Paul Giamatti -- in a good way, because he does a heck of a job in his role. The main guy isn't so great in his role. All he does is whine and cry and it's honestly not convincing and pretty annoying.

(ru) wrote: Lots of racing around after a heist. That's pretty much the movie! Peter Fonda and Susan George play their characters well, even though there isn't too much to them. George should be commended, in a way, in how trashy she's willing to play her character, no makeup, etc. The movie moves along at a good pace, and the ending is pretty classic.
(au) wrote: A pretty good movie and daring for its time, in dealing with women's issues and drug addiction. Based on Jacqueline Susann's bestselling novel. Loosely based on famous women of the time such as Marilyn Monroe and Judy Garland (who was briefly cast, then fired.) Melodramatic, but that fits the showbiz setting. Fine performances from Patty Duke, Sharon Tate and Barbara Parkins, and a cameo appearance by Susan Hayward.
