Sascha M (mx) wrote: A wonderful gem from Jordan, shot mostly with amateur actors and the first feature film of the Jordanian-American director who also wrote the screenplay (he had over 30 drafts!).It ultimately is a movie about how much one single person can do to positively change the lives of people around him and how important seemingly mundane events are in deciding a person's path in life. Captain Abu Raed is the predominant character in his striving for modesty, selflessness and love; at the same time he is portrayed as still having very much human flaws and temptations. The amateur child actors, all are real-life orphans by the way and were cast by the director in Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan, deliver outstanding performances that you will remember for a long time.In line with Abu Raed's character, the dialogue is stripped of any unnecessary words, and room is given to non-verbal communication between the actors, which in turn makes you understand their characters better than words could explain. A film that stands very much on its own and I look forward to many more Amin Matalqa movies!

Francisco L (it) wrote: A little predictable and not very original narrative, with a rather vague end that don't explain us somethings and with few scares, however well acted and with a chilling plot.

Christopher S (au) wrote: I thought It had an almost B-side feel to it. Great actors in a not so great movie with above average action scenes.

Jamison R (fr) wrote: A fun movie that is non-stop silly. I always wanted to do this, participate in a huge all night scavenger hunt.

Nik M (br) wrote: The storytelling is amazing. The characters are profound and never tire audiences. The themes are extremely heavy but so well-handled and with such care. A great Swedish silent film.

K K (es) wrote: This feature IS the comic book limited series in motion. From the color pallette to the Cold War setting, everything goes right. With the appearance of each (truly) iconic member, you eagerly await the next. For better or worse, depending on your preference, this is not a Superman-Batman-Wonder Woman centric film. Each member is spotlit and well characterized. It will take your grandparents back to the beginning of DC's universe while taking the rest of us for a fun Earthbound adventure. Now, if they would only follow it with a sequel that has the sidekicks involved!

Eric D (ag) wrote: There is no payoff, there are no lessons; only five taxicab moments and five cities in the dead of night. And it is captivating.
