Even still, you're left with a pretty incredible film, one that is a great character study and slow-burn thriller at the same time as a great allegory for the gay male experience in general. Amazing.

(kr) wrote: A great thriller film that will completely throw you off throughout. Jennifer lawrence and her mum have just moved into a neighbourhood next door to a boy whose parents got murdered by his sister. All is not what is seems however and the mystery thickens. Jennifer lawrence plaid her part well and was a different direction for her to play. This film is damn right tense and will have you on the edge of your seat throughout.

(ca) wrote: First time I saw this movie I didn't particularly like it, but I came to it second time around knowing that it isn't the fastest paced horror movie around. Visually stunning, the premise is superb as are the proper vampires. The only thing that stops it from being one of the best horror movies of all time is the slightly pedestrian interraction between the characters. It's pretty damn fine nonetheless and generally very underrated.
(fr) wrote: Cary Grant's favorite film, so much so he bought it from Columbia Pictures. Its difficult for me to put a rating on films of different eras, especially this 1941 sentimental favorite. Cary Grant shows in this one that he could stop the comedics and one liners and play a role straight. Will not go into the plot as RT does a fine job of doing it. Legendary cinematographer Joe Walker always refered to The Penny Serenade as "a woman's picture". It is actually just a soap opera. Irene Dunne desiginated cameraman Walker shot this black and white. After making their 1937 smash hit The Awful Truth, George Stevens (director) united Grant and Dunne to make this melodramatic romance film. Cary Grant loved this film above all others in which he starred. To prove it he boughtt the film from Columbia in the 50's because he resented the way it was edited for TV. Sentimental, slow paced, a series of flashbacks and setbacks for a couple edging toward divorce due to things beyond their control (childless).
(fr) wrote: i would rather watch the 17 million dollars used to make this movie burn in an incinerator, because i wouldn't be surprised if that is what the people who made this movie di with all that money!! usage of the same effects 10 times!! ripping off classic scens from the first movie, and a plot so convoluted and stupid that this is my new worst movie ever. But it does have its so bad it's good moments, but everything else is so bad and dumb that it does not save this movie in any way.
(br) wrote: not my typical action movie so couldn't really rate very highly.
(kr) wrote: 2/28/15 It is a gambling service movie that is trying to be like "Wall Street". It doesn't really come across as genuine. It just didn't work for me.
(ag) wrote: One of the worst half-movies I've ever wasted 45 minutes of my life on. Decent premise but completely incredible with a ridiculous script with heavy-handed, over stylized direction.
