Matthew C (ru) wrote: Clint Eastwood superbly visualizes the warm, Southern gothic setting, complete with, fascinating, oddball local color. Unfortunately, these elements, as entertaining as they are, can only take the film so far.The actors are all generally strong, though Kevin Spacey often straddles the line of believability in realizing his decidedly over-the-top, rich southern gentleman. Even more of an issue, however, is the awkward manner in which tonal and genre shifts occur: grim murder mystery to absurd comedy of manners to "Doc Holiday-esque" fish-out-of-water to courtroom drama. It's all too muddled and clumsily handled. There's even a pointless romantic plot with the protagonist that the audience has no use for, thrown in for good measure. Ultimately, Clint could save 35 minutes without this distraction and make this a tighter, two-hour jaunt.Entertaining atmosphere and leads, but script and director need to try harder to reign in the jumble of tones. It seems as though the filmmakers in question are going for the whole "Hey! Look at this wackiness!! Can you believe this is all based on true events??" [The book on which this movie is based makes use of a real court case]

Diego Fernando G (gb) wrote: Unlikely and very silly story, just like the most of the Latin American "soups", but it's as unlikely as funny, and I think that it's a parody of this typical and awful TV shows; just because of that and to step aside from the usual Columbian movies about poverty, drugs and war, this is probably the best movie from my beautiful country in the past 4 or 5 years (Just like "Al final del Espectro")... It's hilarious but in a very Latin American way, so I'm not sure about its succeed abroad, but locally you definitively have to see it, maybe you will like it or not, but seen it is a very good way to support our cinema industry as well as to spend a rainy evening in Bogot.

Sam B (kr) wrote: An extremely tense film about the nature of revenge and remorse. Will "sorry" ever really matter after a certain point. Kinsgsley gives an amazing performance as a man who may or may not be hiding something. Polanski may be an awful person but he is still a great director.
Adam S (de) wrote: There's really not a lot to recommend in this film. Phillip Noyce has directed some good films ("Rabbit-Proof Fence" springs to mind), but he showed none of that potential there.I'm gonna say it, I lost interest about 20 minutes in. Sharon Stone's performance was dreadful, none of the other characters were given any room to move, and it's just a story that didn't need to be told.
Daniel M (us) wrote: I have to give it three stars because I really enjoyed this as a kid and it was good to watch it again, but boy did this movie suck. I'll always enjoy Reeve's Clark Kent and seeing him in the costume will always make me feel like a kid again. 3/5
Brian S (br) wrote: Bad zombie movie. It does have it's moments but what really makes this movie shitty is the ending. The bad acting, weird stock-footage use and shit screenplay with the fuck ass camera are all tried to be hiding by the filmmakers with, to compensate, buckets of gore. This movie could've have been very good but it ain't. Not recommended.
John M (de) wrote: The violence in the film is very real which makes it stand out among animated films of this sort. It's like a real portrayal of life and death while telling a childrens tale. However, the story does get dull as it becomes a regular arch nemesis, villain vs. hero story.
Andrew B (mx) wrote: Jodorowsky hadn't quite gone of the deep end yet with El Topo. The story is a lot more linear than in The Holy Mountain, although it still has some really bizarre (and apparently supernatural) characters and events that keep reminding you that it's still coming from the director whose next movie would feature a man siting in a giant bong breathing in steamed feces in order to perform alchemy.
John P (fr) wrote: Milos Forman's best film and one of his earliest from the days when he was still in Czechoslovakia, the film is absolutely hilarious tale of a young woman who has a one night stand with a piano player.

Spencer S (au) wrote: Buster Keaton is a master of two distinct features of the silent movie era: comedy via physical trauma and injury, and he is the master of stunts. The stunts you see in Buster Keaton films are all real, and were all executed by Keaton himself. You will be in awe throughout this film as you watch Keaton get pummeled, pulled through the streets, and hit with the framework of an entire house, all while keeping a completely stone face. The framework of the film isn't actually all that important, as his past films also demonstrate. The film starts with his father asking him home to help beat out his competitor in a steam liner business. While this shapes the film there are also plots that follow his father to jail, and then Bill Jr. as he saves his love interest from a tornado's vicious wind. The comedy of Keaton's work is still as timeless and humorous as it was in the twenties, and I highly recommend this film for silent film fanatics and comedy lovers alike.
Abby M (fr) wrote: Despite not passing the test of time, I truly enjoyed most of it, though the dark carnival fantasy elements were what hooked me in. Definitely a film that sadly wouldn't be made today, partly for the slightly pedophilic element and partly because 27 year olds these days act like him.

Unwilling to let the relief crew claim all the glory, he disobeys orders to pack up and goes out on an unauthorized expedition to collect further samples. But a routine excavation turns to disaster when the porous ground collapses, and he falls into a deep crevice and near certain death. His devastated colleagues attempt to recover his body. However, when another vanishes they start to suspect that the life-form they have discovered is not yet dead. As the group begins to fall apart it seems their only hope is the imminent arrival of the relief ship Aurora.
