(ru) wrote: I read a review that Josh Radnor is the new Zach Braff and I tend to agree. The movie was a little sluggish and tiresome but the second half does pick up. I think Josh should just stick to TV. You could definitely tell that the script was written by him and the words he uses are his words commonly used on his TV show. It was worth watching once, especially to see Kate Mara and Malin Akerman.

Now, just take an hour out of Funny People's 146-minute running time and I would definitely recommend it......

(fr) wrote: Intriguing, engrossing drama.Barbara (played by Judi Dench) is a history teacher at a high school.Old, old-fashioned, curmudgeonly, alone...and lonely. However, a new, young art teacher, Sheba (played by Cate Blanchett), joins the staffand they become friends. Barbara then stumbles upon the fact that Shebais having an affair with a 15-year old student. Now, what to do withthis information...?A great, tense tale of manipulation and obsession. Good twists, none ofwhich are gratuitous. The villains are not always obvious, and neitherare the heroes...Great work by Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett in the main roles. Denchgot a Best Leading Actress Oscar nomination for her performance andBlanchett a Best Supporting Actress nomination (though I would viewthem both being in leading roles). On the negative side - the ending feels a bit subdued after the greatbuild-up. The ending wasn't bad and does close off the storyadequately, but could have been much better. I was expecting somethingmore gritty and possibly even shocking after the tension created in therest of the movie.

(us) wrote: Expertly walking an ethical line for the sake of asking questions about the depth of love, Glazer produces a visually astounding, impeccably scored, and thoroughly compelling work that no doubt took supreme ambition and nerve to make. Kidman's performance is masterful, as is that of the young Cameron Bright; their scenes in which they attempt to mentally dissect each other are as interesting as anything in recent memory. The premise is hard to swallow, but if you're willing to give yourself over to the experience and truly give thought to what's happening in the characters' psyches, "Birth" is incredibly rewarding.

(de) wrote: Loved it. 'You Better Watch Out' is not the holiday slasher film that its advertising, packaging and retitling might imply. Brandon Maggart is excellent as the disturbed Harry, who believes he IS Father Christmas. There are some wonderfully joyous Christmassy moments as Harry treats the kids that have been good, however his descent into madness spirals out of control when faced with the people that have been bad. A bizarre, eccentric, sweet and blackly comic horror. I'm putting YBWO in my top 3 Christmas films, joining Gremlins (for fun) and Black Christmas (for thrills). Recommended.
(kr) wrote: A very separate entity from the Russian version, Soderbergh's film is much more emotionally adept and visually pleasing, and just as creative and intelligent, just in a different way. Also, those who think this one is slow clearly haven't seen Tarkovsky's version.

With his odds against him, as well as his daughter barely a toddler left in his care...the two of them embark on a journey to get this task taken care of. In doing so he discovers that life truly is a gentle situation, not to be taken granted of. Unmistakably and truly one of those slow brewed classic samurai stories that stays with you long after it is over.

(au) wrote: While the action was great and the CGI spectacular, the portrayal of the story WAS OFF BY 95%! Things that happen in the movie NEVER HAPPENED IN THE BIBLE! If you are making a movie based on THE Bible, STICK TOTHE FACTS! or at least be as close as can be (creative liberties shouldn't be used if you're not going to use them correctly) Prince of Egypt is a spectacular and close resembling movie to the Story of Moses/ Book of Exodus. This movie? MOSTLY FULL OF LIES AND DRAGS ON TOO LONG!Need my money back for this purchase. Not worth it at all!
(it) wrote: This is a movie that was made for $400,000 and went on to earn $44M and a cult following. It is not a good film, but very original. It was meant to be stupid and delivers. There really is no overall message, except that geeks who struggle for acceptance and normalcy eventually prevail and attain the happiness they seek. The film is not funny. However, it is stylistic and unique, which is likely the reason it achieved a cult following, primarily amongst teens. I cannot recommend this to anyone, but give it a 5 out of 10 for its originality.
