Beyond the gratuitous gore, It was well conceived and delivered.Until near the end where it felt they ran out of money and simply got it over with. Also, I detest the recent trend of "everybody dead!!" in film.I understand the predictable ebb and flow of movies, how certain characters can be immediately pegged to survive, whereas others, usually gruff unyielding at first, sacrifice themselves for the company. I actually appreciate and depend on that formula. Don't kill off the cook, that came up unexpectedly and astonished everyone with battle and survival skills!! That guy gets to live, you dolt!!Unless...you're going to kill everyone, leaving me to wonder why I bothered joining this march to abject depression."Get them home, Centurion." Your oath, your honour. ...yea, not so much. I got some Welsh witch waiting for me in the woods. The End.

All she did for most of the film was stand around with a vacuous expression on her face! Not even her beauty was enough to give a poor performance! Marky Mark was not a convincing Max Payne either! C'mon, if you going through the effort to make a dark noire type of action film, don't you think you would try and add the right atmosphere and substance in order to make us care about what happens in this story, or, lack there of!? My number one worst film of 2008! That's another ten bucks I will never get back!~,~,

Andre S (fr) wrote: A genuinely affecting, sprawling Southern Gothic tale with themes of repressed desire and family secrets at its core. The female leads, especially, are outstanding. The fabulous Karen Black, veteran actress of horror classics such as "Burnt Offerings" and, more recently, Rob Zombie's "House of 1000 Corpses/Devil's Rejects" steals the show. One of those movies that will linger in your consciousness long after you've watched it.

Stephen C (it) wrote: I have come to the conclusion while studying Godard and Truffaut, that Truffauts films engage the heart and Godard engage the brain and this film is no exception to the rule. Here Godard is attacking the American consumer culture that the once great city of Paris seems to be falling into with people turning to prostitution to support their high rise life styles to various shots of diggers and cranes destroting the once great views of Paris.Like Jacques Tati in Playtime one year later Godard cast a bitter eye over De Gaulles France, unlike Tati However Godard uses his film to explore his radical politics which would become more prominent in later films such as Weekend. If your not in the right frame of mind, then the film could be seen a a blowhard trying to graft his views on the rest of the world. But Godard here is challenging the conventions of narrative cinema by using tricks such as repeating takes and having the camera only focus on part of the action. The masterstroke is Rauol Coutards stunning technicolour photography which is stunning and the focus on the bubbles in a cup of coffee while Godard whispers over the soundtrack is one of the most memorable moments in the whole of cinema. Not an easy film to get to grips with then, but its also an outstanding masterpiece once you get to grips with it.
