The Mind's Eye
The Mind's Eye is a compilation of experimental computer animations from when such technology was in its early infancy. The animations are from various studios, having been arranged in a sort of "2001" evolution-timeline theme, and set to synthesized music. These pioneering CGI projects later gave rise to films such as Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Antz, and Shrek.

(kr) wrote: I consider myself a "B" movie fan so I watched this on Sci Fi. Even for a low budget film this was bad. Horrible, terrible acting (especially the bank robbers) and lousy dialogue lead what is a promising premise (at least for a "B" movie) into the land of exceedingly bad. Not all of the acting was bad - the lead actor and actress were passable. The skeeters were hilarious instead of terrifying. Skip this...

(de) wrote: I'm kind of unsure about this movie, as the first half actually had me about a couple going from beginning of falling in love to the mundane part of their relationship, but then mid way her sister, Sweetie, enters and the movie seems to derail a bit into a dysfunctional family picture.I honestly thought Sweetie was an awful character, well acted, but just one of those people in society you'd be disgusted with and felt the film suffered when it focused on her.The rest of the acting was good, but the story never really goes anywhere. Not a great film, but not a bad one either.

Empire of the Sun is an excellent historical drama that, in my opinion, nearly rivals the cinematic quality of Saving Private Ryan. The film centres around a young boy named Jim (Christian Bale) who lives with his affluent parents in Shanghai in the midst of World War II. During a riot he is separated from his family and starts living on the streets until he is eventually taken to a Japanese internment camp. His experiences there carve away his narcissism and naivete that his rich lifestyle had previously granted him. Empire of the Sun is an extremely touching, emotionally compelling drama that incorporates beautiful cinematography and brilliant performances into a masterpiece that is regrettably overlooked by most viewers and critics.
