Tor M (it) wrote: I guess this little gem took me by surprize. Never read much about it, never saw the trailer, but I saw it got a whole lot of awards.A very imaginative plot it's about a boy from Laos that everyone thinks is nothing but trouble. He and his family lives in a simple environment to say least. They need to get a move on and they never stay in the same place for long. This is also a vital part of the film. It never stands still. Moments come up, old moments are cared for - this is taking a whole lot of depth and content - at it does so brilliantly.Cool characters and amazing child acting from very charming kids. it got a realistic feel, but not a documentary groove. It's a visual, intense and beautiful story with several moments that will make you smile. It's almost a great film for kids as well, it's just a little too raw at times. A warm and very cultural film with an anstonishing climax.8.5 out of 10 bats.

george g (ag) wrote: Yes the acting was good they made it seem like they are the real people. That had to go through these problems. And yes I'm glad that I watched Freedom Writer's I know I already said this but I would watch Freedom Writer's again and again. Also I learned something from this movie to not be involved in any gangs or violence.
Stefanie C (es) wrote: An ironic, existential portrait of loneliness. From the start, Koistinen is painfully out of sync with his environment and ostracized by almost every person he encounters. The tight, lingering frame compositions, remarkably open and suggestive, emphasize this discordant, askew vision. Amidst this bleakness, hope triumphs in the final, life-affirming shot. A positive end to Kaurismaki's Loser Trilogy.
Brett H (ca) wrote: A gritty, yet highly implausible revenge story led by a great cast and directed with skill from the talented John Singleton who pulls no punches with the violence. The story is very good with the aforementioned brothers' adoptive mother being purposely gunned-down in a staged robbery and throughout you are on the edge of your seat wondering who's involved and who's straight. This was the turning point in Wahlberg's career where he began taking more mature roles and his camaraderie with the rest of his brothers is hilarious and loving. The film certainly has some silly moments and in the real world they would never be able to get away with so much of their own vigilante-justice, but the film is so fun you just have to take it for what it is. It's a violent, stripped-down, revenge drama that pays off on many fronts and I enjoy it quite a bit!

Jeff S (it) wrote: Horrible dialogue and much like Anna Karenina couldn't wait for Gloria to die. Although would have been nice if Weston bit it as well.
James H (es) wrote: It is amazing how much was done on such a miniscule budget. The only thing about the film that is utterly ridiculous is the alien, otherwise it is moody and atmospheric with decent performances and a good pacing to the film. Well written story.
Adam F (ca) wrote: The only real fault of "All-Star Superman" is that it is not long enough to truly develop all of the ideas and themes it introduces. At times the film whizzes by like a speeding bullet and anyone who isn't familiar with the original source material will likely feel a little lost at times. Still, for anyone who has ever heard of Superman, it's an inspiring story with some truly original science fiction elements and a story about true good, true evil and above all, humanity. It's wonderfully inventive and a brilliant piece of science fiction. (Blu-ray, February 2012)
