It can't help but feel half-baked at times, but, when coming from directors like the Coens, we know that this is absolutely purposeful.

I was a little wary of the estranged husband/wife story between Rockwell and Beckinsale, but the major tragedy at the midpoint makes the film better, frankly, and gives both actors their best peformances. A very dark and depressing movie, with small bits of hope from the story of teenage first love. I wish we could have seen more of that storyline. Overall, a high recommend, if you are looking to be emotionally drained.

(jp) wrote: Not one of the most historically accurate films of the period, but definitely one of the most extravagant. And Burton bellows and roars like a lion.
