The Naked Venus
A young American painter and his French wife move with their small daughter to the US when the husband's father dies. His mother takes an instant dislike to the wife, and when she finds out that her daughter-in-law is a nudist who once posed naked for an artist, she declares her son's wife to be an unfit mother and sets out to break up the marriage--which may not be difficult to do, as the son is a weak-willed "mama's boy" who's terrified to stand up against his domineering mother.

(de) wrote: This funeral home based dark comedy is somewhat of a rarity. It does not pull any punches, at times is gritty, and resolves itself with quite a satisfying ending. The fact that other than Graham Greene's character, no one will elicit any sympathy just adds to the fun. If you like death as a motivation for personal gain, then "Just Buried" is a must see. The acting and character development is quite good for this limited budget endeavor. It is funny, never boring, and at times unpredictable. The conclusion especially is surprisingly original. I recommend this black comedy for both it's creativity and entertainment value. 4 stars 8-19-13

(de) wrote: Endless Love should have everything going for it: Based on an acclaimed bestseller, directed by Franco Zefferelli(Romeo & Juliet) and a very good cast which includes debut performances of Tom Cruise, Jami Gertz(Twister) and Ian Ziering(Beverly Hills 90210) but it stops dead on it's tracks due to it's slower than molasses pace and the disasterous last half. It's the story about forbidden love between David(Martin Hewitt) and Jade(Brooke Shields The parents tell them to stay away from each other cause grades are suffering and they are getting too serious for their own good. It's put together quite well by Zefferelli and both Shields and Hewitt are believeable looking in their roles but all the characters are one dimensional and the dialogue seems to be written by a Harrelquin romance novelist moonlighting as a screenwriter. Teens back in '81 swooned over this slushy film like today's tweens swoon over theTwlight films.
(au) wrote: Interesting premise but doesn't work. Takes a third of the film to get to the meat of the story and then doesn't go anywhere.
