Not a lot happens, but it plods along pleasantly enough, 2 and a 1/2 out of 5! Watch out for Tim Robbins as the least convincing teenager.........ever!!!!!

Matty S (it) wrote: From an American history and cultural viewpoint, there is merit in MEDIUM COOL. It captures some potent moments during a a demonstration that devolves into a riot filled with police brutality. But, my overall feeling about this film is that it is over-rated. There are very long stretches of odd and unneeded scenes involving the cameraman's sex life that feel exploitive. And, Forster's performance is more than a little heavy-handed. Ultimately, this is a movie that features some significant "time capsule" moments but far too many moments of dated filmmaking.
James C (fr) wrote: Too bad Presley didn't make more movies like this. Good solid western with good performances by Richard Egan, Debra Page and bad guy Aaron Neville. This is the only time Elvis does die on screen and the only time he was married at the beginning of the picture. Only four songs and all of fun to watch especially the title track. Quite bittersweet and just about the best movie he ever made.
Evan S (nl) wrote: This film deals with the central issue of human life: good and evil. The young Sugata is taken from an aimless life to one filled with purpose in the pursuit of spiritual ideals through his practice of Judo. But his enemy, westernizing fop, is out for glory. There is a showdown. Its great and beautiful. There is a great deal of catharsis because of the compelling presentation of realities at the heart of human existence. I ll never forget the scene when the master and the student make a little pilgrimage to a shrine and the see a woman in prayer, her innocence and purity are palpable. they are both overcome. For some reason my favorite Kurasawa films are the lesser known.
