The Painted Hills

After years of prospecting, Jonathan finally strikes gold. He returns to town only to discover that his partner has since died and left Tommy fatherless. He decides to leave Shep (played by Lassie) with Tommy to cheer him up. Meanwhile, Jonathan's new partner, Lin, isn't interested in sharing the gold, and lures Jonathan to his death. Lassie immediately deduces what's happened, so Lin poisons Lassie. Lassie barely pulls through and pursues Lin to a climactic confrontation where, due to an off-screen accident with some liquid nitrogen, Lin's gun jams.

Paul D (de) wrote: Hopefully this won spurn a second entry. Despite some promise this is never realised and it's a horror going through the motions in the end with found footage not offering too much extra to the film.

Mayank F (es) wrote: funny at times, d sequel to a bad movie does prove better. but it lacks a decent script nd madness of d sort to be still successful. weak performances nd bad songs xcept 'garden garden' make it dull.

Professor S (es) wrote: In his debut feature, Pusher, Nicholas Winding Refn created a rather thoughtful film masquerading as a simple genre picture. The advantage of hindsight shows us that he would take this idea to entirely new levels with the release of Pusher 2 and most recently, Drive. In Fear X this, at times, feels reversed, a genre picture masquerading as something deeper. This is unfortunate, the film works really, really well as a genre picture. There's a tension to it, a growing sense of paranoia. John Turturro's performance is terrifyingly detached, you never have a clue what it is he's going to do next. There's this beautiful modern noir color palette to it, and the lighting, the sets, are dripping in pulpy drama. The problem is with the oneiric parts of the film, a traditional element of noir, here they tend to feel dated, stamped with a shelf life. They play false, and they affect the way the film moves. It feels uneven, individual scenes work well, but moving from one to the other feels instinctively wrong. It's a rather strange film, with a rather strange approach to structure. It's a good film, but today it feels a little like an early prototype for Drive, although, considering how incredible Drive was, that's definitely not all bad.
