(jp) wrote: This had a phenomenal build up and yet- flaccid. Good slasher films, particularly those resurrected from the 80s should not rely on their history alone. When producing films in the early 00s- there has to be a fuel that encourages a new audience. This film relied far too much on assumed knowledge meaning, for some of my friends, it was lost on them. For Freddy Krueger fans- this tantalised with cutting dialogue & signature pecan wit. For Jason fans- looming 7ft2 hockey puck is present & suitably slashes. But that's it. The plot is weak, the holes are plentiful & the 'is he dead/isn't he dead?' question at the end simply doesn't serve to excite or inspire and is a lazy attempt at cutting a film with the hint of a possible sequel. Close but no cigar.

(br) wrote: The entire plot is silly and brainless. The countless twists tossed into the movie were unnecessary and tacky. The fighting choreography itself is a joke.Don't even wast you time on this movie.

(ru) wrote: I'm always very judgmental when it comes to books or movies on Anne Boleyn. I'm very protective over this historical person, I'm not exactly sure why. I have a connection with her that I can't quite explain. I try to keep an open mind in all things, but my opinions and thoughts about her story won't change. However, I force myself to give the movie or book a chance. To be blunt...I enjoyed this movie. It maybe old, but I loved it. Even though some of the time line was a little off, I didn't care. Odd. I just watched the movie in awe-silenced. I believed that it should have won some sort of award. Maybe not an Oscar, but perhaps a Golden Globe or something.I loved all the actors in their roles. They all did wonderful. It was odd, I actually really like this version of Henry VIII. Usually actors who play the vengeful king play him to be a complete jerk and a heartless man. However, Richard Burton played him completely different. Henry seemed like a cool guy and he was nice to everyone, except when someone made him mad, then the typical Henry came out. I also enjoyed how Anne was portrayed. She was more cold and hateful towards Henry. She made it perfectly clear that she didn't like him, but Henry kept perusing her until she fell in love with him.The only negative thing I can think off about this film was a couple of the scenes that should have been edited and changed. A couple times I cringed and was tempted to fast forward at. For example, Anne's execution scene. Really? It was extremely cheesy and just...wrong. They didn't even include her speech. Also, the dancing scenes seemed odd and just thrown together at the last minute. I couldn't stand those scenes.Besides for a couple of scenes I loathed, I really did love the movie. It was cute and different. It told the story from a different view. A lot of the characters were played in a different light, which I highly enjoyed. it was a different look at an old story. Out of five stars I grant this one five stars. ^.^ I recommend that everyone who loves history, the tudors, or just a good old movie should watch this.favorite character: Anne Boleyn, of course!Not-so-favorite character: Cromwell the lawyer
(us) wrote: Although the plot isn't original and it's not the first nor the last film to set the orpheus myth in a modern setting it is a great visual achievement from Cocteau, and is one of the best mythic films ever made. Even knowing the story of Orpheus doesn't stop the film from being a stand alone masterpiece.

They are on their way to Africa to buy a piece of property which supposedly is loaded with uranium but Billy (Humphrey Bogart) meets a girl leading to lots of doubt and suspicion among the group of crooks. This film is full of great actors (Humphrey Bogart, Peter Lorre, etc.), yet it's pretty terrible. Humphrey Bogart seems to be sleepwalking through this role, delivering some of the better lines with his typical suaveness. The problem is that the film really has no idea what it wants to be, so it just ends up being pretty boring and uninteresting. It wants to be a comedy, yet its not very funny, with a few lines being the exception. The film doesn't know if it wants to be as it could have been a good Heist movie or con film, but it's just a satire that overall isn't very funny. It kinda feels like it wanted to be a parody but it just feels like a bad one. The romance that forms between Billy and Gwen feels quite forced and just doesn't work at all for me either. I believe it's a commentary on imperialism, but it's not particularly sharp or interesting...Lots of wasted talent here.
