Carlos M (nl) wrote: Marion Cotillard delivers a fantastic performance in this delicate character study (directed by the Dardenne brothers in their naturalistic style full of long takes) about the burden of depression and a woman's need to find her strength back through an anguishing situation.

Joe H (ru) wrote: Why did this movie get made? Characters were shallow and you didn't care about any of them or their struggles. It had the potential to be funny but wasn't. Arielle Kebbel is a nice face to watch but if she keeps attaching herself to projects like this her career is going nowhere.

Richard S (mx) wrote: A dark horse British film about multi-culturalism. It shouldn't work half as well as it does simply because it covers too much ground. However, it is the conviction and honesty of the film that carries it. Excellent.

Ricky K (us) wrote: Wonderful movie. A pure delight. Had the pleasure of viewing this film in my History of Cinema class and absolutely loved it. Too bad Hollywood doesn't make movies like this anymore. If you ever have the opportunity to see this film do so it's worth it.

Al M (fr) wrote: Essentially, Vigilante is a Death Wish ripoff--Robert Forster's family is attacked and he decides to join some friends of his in their vigilante exploits. What saves Vigilante from being totally derivative is William Lustig, who brings his stylish direction and brutal sensibilities to bear upon this rather cliched plot. While Vigilante is not where near as nasty or groundbreaking as Lustig's Maniac, the film still packs a visceral punch and depicts a stylish, late 70s/early 80s dystopian cityscape that fits well with more futuristic films such as Escape from New York, The Warriors, Serpico, etc. Of course, Vigilante features the familiar plot of criminals who get away with their crimes because of our overly bureaucratic and flaccid judicial system, but it also provides a profound comment on the dystopian nature of urban life. However, more than anything else, Vigilante is a bad-ass revenge flick that will have you cheering for the deaths of the bad guys and reveling as they get their just rewards.
