Tony P (nl) wrote: What began as a semi-serious visit to Hank's early filmography became a surprisingly dense experience. Hanks could obviously act early on; his performance is stand-out amongst the others. The idea of a man going insane from fantasy roleplay is pretty hilarious until you see Hanks, stark with fear, stabbing another man because he thinks its a Morvil. The majority of the movie lives in cheesy 80s TV movie land. For instance, one character always and inexplicably wears funny hats, and a love story begins but then is never revisted. It draws lots of unintentional laughter, but it lashes back with some serious stuff when Tom Hanks calls his friends crying "There's blood on my knife! There's blood on my hand!" What's most stupifying is the film's final scene, which is tragic, mean, and completely immoral in the context of the rest of the film. Watch it and you'll see what I mean.

Aaron W (gb) wrote: This film had me at cute clown girls shooting a revolver out of the rear window of a car as they are chased down a French country road. This is the very first scene and, of course, no real reason for this chase, or why they're dressed like clowns is given for the first hour or so, and honestly I would have preferred it if Rollin had kept it that way, but, alas we do get a one sentence explanation eventually which really doesn't do much to clarify any of the story's vagueness. Indeed it's this vagueness that's sure charm some and frustrate others. Well it charmed me, giving the film a dreamworld feel perpetuated by some truly whimsical photography. I dig it.
