In spite of a couple of over-the-top scenes that seemed like they could have been cut, the film is a great film with a big heart. Steven Martin plays George Banks, a man who just got done paying for his daughter's wedding, and who is just getting adjusted to the idea of what retirement will be like. Then he gets an unexpected surprise regarding his daughter's pregnancy. Then another unexpected surprise. I won't spoil the fun. But anyway, an enjoyable film.

Brandon W (fr) wrote: When I was about to go watch Cast Away on Netflix, the Apple TV wasn't working which all I had to do in order to entertain my sister and I, is to watch TV. I saw that Philadelphia was on one of the channels, and I wanted to watch it because I was bored, and to waste some time, which turned out to be a really great movie. Tom Hanks is really great in this and does a good job playing a homosexual man that never seem to be obvious which would've been stereotypical. When the his character has AIDS, you can see the stages of it which the make-up people did a great job of making it look realistic, and Tom Hanks as well for giving a sense of what would a person act like if they have AIDS. The story is really interesting, even if it's like other courtroom dramas. The writing is well done, and the characters are well developed. It's funny at times, and the direction by Jonathan Demme is well-shotted. The courtroom scenes are really interesting and are usually the best part on the film. Denzel Washington gives a great performance which with him and Tom Hanks together in a movie with a talented director, gives a memorable movie that probably stands out from other court drama movies.
Jonathan G (ru) wrote: The film starts mid-story, and that may have been the smartest way, otherwise it may have been even more boring and run-of-the-mill. At least this way you're clinging on every word to try and understand what's happening. Lots of car chases and stunts (although not up to current day standards). Rating: 6 / 10
