Thomas W (fr) wrote: Bettie Page Reveals All is a documentary film from Academy Award nominated documentarian Mark Mori (Building Bombs) about the early life and times of the raven-haired pin-up queen/model/actress of the 1940's and 50's named Bettie Page that is narrated by the late star herself (Page passed in 2008 at the age of 85). After seeing a "biographical" film about her "notorious" self in 2005, Page was upset with the risqu adjective people were using to describe her and so she decided to strike back and reclaim her own image! Her modeling career is legendary and in this doc she interestingly reflects upon the highs and lows of both her life and her career which she eventually abandoned when she met Christ and become Born Again. The film chronicles her various relationships and marriages and also touches on her sad case of mental illness. One could say the film meanders and strays from subject to subject but the entire film is Bettie Page - warts and all. Bettie Page was a surprisingly shy human being who lived a full life and was comfortable in her own skin. That she was comfortable doing what she did isn't surprising but learning of her other character flaws and past tragedies is.

Nicole G (es) wrote: I have mixed feelings on this movie.....I do not even know where to start. Ericka Christensen and Jesse Metcalfe play an average middle class couple, whose six year old son is kidnapped right out of their front lawn and murdered. The beginning is very choppy and lots of flashbacks and forwards. After the police find their son dead, and arrest the kidnapper, we see a few more flashes of court. The killer is sentenced to 25 to life for the killing, which the couple feels is unjust. In their grief, they come up with a plan to kidnap and torture the man themselves. Most of the film takes place in the basement where they are holding the man captive. In this house, is also where the problems start with the film. *****SPOILERS***** I had a really hard time buying that a normal average couple could do something like that, even to a man that killed their son. They seemed to flip flop between revenge and grief. The fact that they were actually talking about and thinking about their child while doing this, not only was disturbing, but very far fetched. There is also a scene where they have sex after torturing him the first time. This is also unbelievable and bothersome. Are we to believe that these normal everyday people have just turned into blood lusted killers? And then to even think about the child they lost during that is even more gruesome and gross. This movie fails to convince the viewer of the grief the couple is going through and make it hard to watch what they put their son's killer through. They come off as a couple of kill happy psychopaths. Their zest for torture comes straight out of left field. To watch someone torture someone because of a sick and twisted mind is one thing, to watch it for revenge, is quite another, as those are suppose to be everyday people. Your parents, siblings or neighbors. Jesse Metcalfes character is a doctor and he uses his gifts of healing to ensure that his victim, the killer of his son stays conscious and fully aware as they heinously torture him and have you question who is the victim now? And then the ending....which, is a good twist, but done so fast and ended so abruptly that it left you wanting more. First off, how, after several days of insane amounts of torture and even dying for a period of time, was this man able to locate and pen and paper and write such a note. All in that short time before they found him....Secondly, they convinced this poor man that he murdered their son, as he could not remember anything after the crash, but what happens when they realize, via the cops or news, that their son's killer is back in jail, and they tortured the wrong person? They could have made it a bit longer, and gave us a better ending. One thing I did love about this movie, although hidden in the brutality of it, is the moral. Vengeance is not ours to have.

William C (ca) wrote: Grade:Low 8/10Mean Streets is a drama from a director who just knows how to make a film and contain all the elements it should have. This film is no different to Scorsese's others and although this is considered his early work, it is no way a film that isn't near his best. With it's street setting of New York and the brilliant acting and actors involved, this turns out to be a film that although I sometimes feel is overrated, it still a very good film, and here below is why I think it is that. The story is a short one but tells the tale of street mob life in the 70's with a kind of chill and ease that means the film is never loud or too serious, but delves into the inner workings of a part of the criminal underworld. The story does slow just a little towards the end but still maintains a presence where you feel deeply involved and this could be one of those films where the camera angles are from your own perspective as if you are there.Harvey Keitel is brilliant here, if the film would have been just a little better I feel, he could have won awards and nominations for his role. Robert De Niro is an actor who never seems to not be around in different decades, and yet again he shows up this time as a young man with serious anger issues who which Keitel guides him through some lessons in life. I liked Richard Romanus in this one and his easy attitude and calm demeanour(well mostly) is greatly appreciated in the tempo of this movie.Martin Scorsese directs and writes this very well, he just seems to know how to not just write engaging dialogue and scenes that usually end up boring being actually entertaining, but also how to move his actors around the camera to get a beautifully acted sequence. The soundtrack with this is pretty neat, it works well in scenes and provides if anything a mood setting for certain scenes, Scorsese really knew how to use music to his advantage in this movie. The main criticism for this film is mostly from the way it is very slow, a lot of talking and not a whole lot goes on, great drama yes but I felt to be a bit better, it needed ever more drama and maybe possibly some intense fights. By what I say I mean no disrespect to this movie it is very good, but it just is sometimes a little slow and especially with the ending or middle to end, it slows significantly down going for the finish.Scorsese fans should love it, it contains elements we are so used to from him and of course who else but Robert De Niro stars in it. I think that although it is based on Italian American mobsters, fans of films like that may not like it the same way they love others, it doesn't contain action much and the crime at a few times is kept at a very low level indeed, still a great piece of crime drama for anyone who likes it.I found this to be Safely a Very Good movie, it starts off great and never really fades until the middle of the end but it goes to show that if a film like this that fades still is very good, it is a film you should see. Enjoy Scorsese here and you should be rewarded with his bountiful skill, not his best in my opinion but some do think it is so go with that, but I tell you don't listen to what others say and think it is all good, watch it for yourself.
