Jonathan S (gb) wrote: Not as scary as say Paranormal Activity, though this movie very much has a similar feel. La Casa Muda (The Silent House; not to be confused with the recent American remake) is an Uruguayan Spanish-language film that is spooky enough to wet the appetite of any horror fan and put you in the mood for a genuinely creepy evening. It relies heavily on sounds and sounds alone. The film itself, however, is very quiet so whenever you hear a noise, no matter how innocuous, it is always startling. The most interesting thing about the movie is that it is made to seem like one long, continuous 78-minute shot which is very effective in prolonging the sense of dread that you should have while watching a horror film-- as though you are experiencing the events in real time with the characters. Camera work isn't anything fancy though. It's not like Paranormal Activity with the found footage gimmick though, but the beginning does claim to be a true story. All in all it still does a decent job of being spooky. If you're looking for something different to give you a couple chills on Halloween then give this movie a shot. Not to over the top but not bland either.

Adam C (br) wrote: Maybe it's because of the fan service that is seeing these characters together but that's where the fun ends. The only plot there is is that the bad guy wants to stop this game from destroying his world, what does he do? Play the game that's going to destroy his world... ok...? For some reason, I really liked it from begining to the end of the credits.

Chris D (ca) wrote: Based on a true story this is not for the faint of heart. Strong, powerful and emotional tale which will undoubtedly make you wince and squirm in your armchair. If you can take it, it is well recommended. If you have already watched the Magdalene Sisters this is a similar tale but this time involving young boys.
