Michael M (jp) wrote: I guess it really comes down to this question: are you a fan of Tarzan? If the answers yes, you'll probably get something out of this movie. If the answers no, this isn't going to change your mind. Personally, I love the Tarzan mythos. I love any of the feral child stories. So I was sold on this movie from the first trailer. I actually really liked how seriously they took the stories of Tarzan, and how they added something of a historical element to it with characters based on real people. A lot of what happens is based on actual events, just with Tarzan thrown in. The characters are all a lot of fun. Margot Robbie and Cristoph Waltz aren't exactly anything special, but they do their job just fine. Samuel L. Jackson and Alexander Skarsgrd are the real stars here though. Jackson sort of works as the audience surrogate. He's competent, but in over his head, and baffled by a lot of the insanity that happens in the story. Skarsgrd as Tarzan is sometimes maybe a bit too stoic, but overall I like this take on the character. It's about a man who has spent years trying to become more human, and is now being pulled back into the jungle and finds himself reverting to his animal nature. That central theme of man and animal was really what elevated this movie for me. The movies not without its problems though. The villains are kind of boring, and the resolution with both are pretty anticlimactic. It's also pretty on-and-off with the effects. Sometimes the jungle scenes look absolutely incredible, other times they're embarrassingly obvious green-screen. Ultimately I really liked this movie. It's maybe not the definitive Tarzan story a lot of people would want, but as a new take on the iconic character there's a lot to like here. Just so long as you enjoy this character.

"It sometimes gets boring but it also has a moment that this movie has a heart and soul of cleverness to it as well." The performances that a given in this movie by Steve Zahn and Jennifer Aniston are beguiling. The directing and screenplay by Stephen Belber is fine. The cinematography and score is good as well.

Gordon B (nl) wrote: This is an arid & jagged Brazilian film where religious class differences are settled with shotguns in the middle of the desert

Tori D (kr) wrote: The opening raises a question that goes unanswered until the final act, and the answer is of one you don't see coming. This, among many reasons, is what makes this movie such a joy. Between several plot twists and a convincing cast to show them, this is yet another story that Jimmy Sangster has succeeded in writing so well.

It also makes me wish I wasn't English, as, unfortunately it was made in England.. Making us all look as though we have no idea about films.

Though how do you look at it makes all the impact. The title says it all, it takes place in the year 1864, about a teen African-American boy who partnered with another man to help the bounty hunters to catch their target. One such mission is to retrieve a man from far away place and how they are going to do it the story speaks intensely. It looks a bit like 'Slow West' because of the journey the main characters make, but it is different and quite interesting. I don't know anybody from this film, but I'm pleased with their character executions. The boy was at his best, I don't know he would win any award for it, but mentioning and appreciating him is at least the right thing to do. Because a small film like this won't get much attention other than critics through film festivals. So I saw it and I'm glad I saw it.It was much better than other similar films. Realistic approach was the highlight. During the civil war and lots of casualties happened around, this little adventure of three was told better than I anticipated. Being an African-American at that time of the United States was not very fortunate. It just reveals the actual atmosphere and other related stuffs how difficult it was then.It started off like some kind of a serious bounty hunting story and then slowed in the remaining parts, until the final sequence to get emotional. Does not feel like a fictional tale, definitely a small gem. I think feeling it should have been a bit better is normal, but overall I'm satisfied and recommend it for those who wants a good B movie.6.5/10
