(fr) wrote: It has it's perks but come on, its about a whale who is harpooned to death because the o-so clever director thinks that there is a choir stuck inside and they are singing as a sign for help.
(ag) wrote: There is a rather bizarre almost bipolar aspect to this film...Some of John Ford's and Will Roger's most prime moments of sentimental American humanity scarred by almost unbearable racist stereotyping featuring Stepin Fetchit...All in all a flawed curio rather than a potential immortal gem...
(us) wrote: I saw this movie a long time ago. This is Brian DePalma's darkest & most disturbing movie you'll ever see besides Stephen King's Carrie (1976). Sean Penn was appropriately cast as the evil and menacing Tony Meserve. Michael J Fox was surprisingly good in the role of Daniel Lang, which is a huge departure for him at time since he was typically cast in lighter comedies & other family friendly films. David Rabe did an excellent screenplay. Brian DePalma did an excellent job of directing this dark Vietnam War drama.
