Matt M (es) wrote: A decadent nobleman, a transvestite prostitute, a botanist on a mission to save palm trees from insect infestation, a kind-hearted paramedic. They are only four of the many colourful characters who live in the areas around Rome's famous Ring Road followed by Gianfranco Rosi in his latest work. This year's Golden Lion winner, the first documentary to win the coveted prize, Sacro GRA feels as much like a tender and heartfelt look at these everyday people as it does an enchanting portrayal of the magical side and uniqueness of these individuals. It also feels like the more realistic spin on the familiar multiple plotline structure that is prominent in fiction filmmaking but never feels as genuine and harrowing as it does in this documentary. Furthermore, its wonderful and careful photography makes it seem like a touching and entertaining narrative drama that is often at once funny and tragic - an approach that both reveals and flatters Rosi's scope of seeking and showing the beauty of the comedy and drama of everyday life.

The Nazis have an armada of flying saucers ready to invade earth and spread their peace and unity. A lot of potential, but its ruined by poor dialogue and jokes which usually fall flat.

Jim H (mx) wrote: An urbanite couple returns to the South to visit one's family and pursue an artist. There are aspects of the South that this film captures that I've rarely seen expressed so clearly and accurately on film. The odd inferiority complex, which is the most prominent and elusive, the commitment to religion, the familial devotion, the silent father, the nosey neighbor, the verdant landscape, the meddling mother, the racist, loyal Confederate artist -- all of it is here and expressed in all its honorable integrity and ridiculousness. The film is an achievement on the level of Faulkner in this way, but it obviously lacks in others.Amy Adams's break-through performance is the film's highlight, and Adams is both charming and annoying. Her work embodies the film's embrasure of contradictions, which is why she fits so well with the rest of the strong ensemble.I think the film didn't fully get at the root of the family's dysfunction, as Super Reviewer Alice Shen pointed out, but I also think the film was caught betwixt and between on whether or not to judge these characters.Overall, Junebug is a fantastic addition to film's attempt to capture the South.

John M (ru) wrote: I did not enjoy this film much. I thought it was a hard watch full of unlikable, miserable characters who want to have sex with Ewan Macregor!

irene c (au) wrote: the movie was not that good. it was slow throughout the scenes. it is also a coming to age movie where two friends explore sex for the first time with girls and themselves. it is an ok movie.

No O (kr) wrote: Steve Vai composed and played all the soundtrack for this silly movie. That's about the only thing it has going for it.

Lynda M (ca) wrote: Delightful "bon-bon", where if the story is a little dull, the excellent cast tickles the funny bone just at the right moments. Worth a look.

Emily T (es) wrote: This is the movie that won Olivia de Havilland her first Oscar! I'm sad to say that this movie has not played on TV for over 5 years and it is not available on DVD. This movie is a wonderful tearjerker! It's about a young girl in a small town who has an affair with a WWI pilot and becomes pregnant as a result. She conspires to "adopt" her son without anyone knowing he's hers but the plan goes awry and he is adopted by another family, forcing her to watch him grow up from afar. You feel so much for de Havilland's character and every time she cries about her son, it makes you cry too. I love this movie and want to watch it again.
